Being new to the forums, forgive me if I fumble around as I try to navigate my way around here.

A while back I heard about the remake of the movie "IT." I haven't heard much about the upcoming film in a while other than the release of who would be playing Pennywise and the sketch of what this new Pennywise would look like.

I have mixed feelings about a remake. On one hand Tim Curry will always be Pennywise (probably because I'm a huge fan of Curry), and the original was incredible! Yet on the other hand we have the introduction of a horror classic being brought to a new audience -which may bring in a new generation of readers.

I am curious if this remake is going to be a remake or a retelling of the classic film. Does anyone have insight? What are your thoughts to the upcoming remake?

It's been so long since I read the book, the movie might not suffer from comparison syndrome, but what I remember most from the original film is Currys Pennywise and that will be hard to equal.

I'll probably watch it but I can't say I'm hopeful. I don't want a "retelling" or it reset in the 80s. I think that is idiotic for all sorts of reasons that I could (and probably will) enumerate later if I get around to it. Right now I'd rather write fiction and try to get published. :D It suffices to say the original setting of this story was important and that the 80s are not the late 50s.

Well, the 80's is the new '50's nowdays like it or not. I grew up in the '80's myself, like most other middle-aged people who are alive right now, so I don't mind that change. Even looking forward to it myself. So I think it's safe to say that the main reason for the change is because the new movie is targeted at a newer (read younger) audience that simply doesn't remember the 50's because we weren't born yet back then, and the '80s is the spot where most of our feelings of nostalgia originate these days. And that is an important aspect to the story, because the audience needs to be able to relate to and feel a connection to the main characters and their struggles they suffered through as kids. So when we see things from that time in the movie that we remember from when we were kids, it will have a greater impact on us than if the story is set in an earlier time back when things were vastly different. No offense or anything, just saying :)

the fact that this movie has the house on Neibolt street is a step in right direction.I like the mini series but it left out huge parts of the story.I still wish they would have made it a 4 or 5 season series like Game of thrones or The Walking Dead
