Well I have butter fingers. Please ignore the last post, I didn't mean to hit submit, and now it won't let me edit it. Let's try this again, shall we....?

2014 was an incredible year. After almost a lifetime of very black luck, my life has finally taken a turn for the better.
You see, there was this person, this man-person, that I knew a while back. We were friends, then good friends, then best friends. The timing of all this wasn't the best, and some unfortunate things happened. We fell out of touch for over two years.
Then, January 5, 2014, this man walked back into my life. Quite literally. The events that brought us back together are almost surreal, but to make a long story short, we mended our broken fences. And when all was said and done, we realized that all the time we'd spent apart was time wasted. In spite of everything, we still loved each other just as passionately as we had before.
We are now married, have a son on the way, (he's due in February) have moved into a townhouse, he bought me my first car.... So much has happened this year, all of it good, that I hardly know what to think. I'm so used to life being this thing that you want to get out of, and now I look around myself, see what life has become, and want to live forever. 2014 is definitely a year that will stand out in my memory for a very long time.
...that is a wonderful piece of news honey...fate has a unique way of balancing things out...

...don't you get a better shot at retirement from the force at 20?.....
That's what I was thinking. By all means, hang in there. My intentions were to stay for 30, but things did not work out, and we parted company after a few short years. Still miffed about that, but that's the way life goes, some times. The only thing I really miss is the camaraderie. I tried to set things right, several times, and even tried to re-enlist during the first gulf war, and a couple of days after 9-11. They still wouldn't have me, and I finally gave up and said F*** them (the Pentagon, not the people in the Navy and Air Force).
As for interviews, I absolutely hate them, especially in today's PC, Diversity-obsessed, hypercritical world. Too many silly and intricate mind games and wondering how far you have to kiss multiple butts to get a job that doesn't pay what you're worth, anyway. Usually talking to a person who doesn't even know what a hammer or wrench (or center-fire primer) are, let alone know how to use them properly.
If you already have 17 years invested, stay in. It is a noble profession/calling, even if it sometimes seems that a lot of the population does not understand the sacrifices you make and are willing to make. That is just the way it has always been, going back to Roman times, and probably to the first caveman who stood guard duty, outside the warm cave.
I include a lot of military people in my screenplays, and they are really the only force keeping us safe from the barbarians out there. It is just like the cops. Everybody complains about them enforcing laws, like speeding and public intoxication, until they need their protection from the bad guys.

This was the year that I finally took the first step toward a life goal. I think I'll reach it in 2015.
I've also looked deeper into myself as a whole. I realized that I could be very judgmental and I've worked hard to control that.

I've also realized that I have very little in common with most people and even though I try to interact . . .I care less and less about doing so.
There are those times when the only person you can seem to please is yourself. But, that can be hard to do, so you have achieved something.

2014 was a memorable year for me, in several ways.....

I graduated high school and started college.

Started my current job.

Made a bunch of new friends and left behind several folks who weren't positive influences in my life.

Discovered the wonder that is Paul McCartney's solo music.

Started reading several authors I'd never read before, most notably Peter Straub and HP Lovecraft.

Got a new cat.

Lost an old cat (but hopefully not).

Got two new Stephen King books-- and they were great!

After five years of waiting, my favorite band (U2) released their new album in a memorable way.

I became a fan of Taylor Swift (sigh.....)

Developed a love for Classic literature

Grew a beard.

Began wearing sweater vests.

My older sister got married.

Got my current car (Chevrolet Equinox).

Got my first MRI.....and my second MRI.....and an MRV.

These are just a few of the things I'll remember about 2014. Here's to hoping 2015 is the best year ever.

The last several years have been very rough, but many things seem to be smoothing out, finally. The way I look at it, any day you can wake up is good, because there were a lot of people who did not, and there is always somebody who has it tougher than you, so don't whine. After realizing that (takes longer some days!), I'm ready to tackle whatever life throws at me, and maybe even progress toward my long-term goals.
