Am posting this on behalf of PITH who is hoping someone here might be able to point him in the direction of an appraiser with knowledge of stone carvings. He doesn't have the origin of where the piece comes from so it could either be a pre-Colombian artifact or '60s hippy art but help figuring that out would be appreciated.

...considering Patrick's situation, I would ask that we not make light of this-....one of the Universities nearby should have someone on staff that could help from a historical or geological standpoint or both....plus, they always have colleagues they can call on for further assistance...

Thank you, Scott. I am compiling a list of possible contacts for him since he has limited internet and phone capabilities for doing research.

...you're welcome dearheart...I know he probably needs this to be valuable, as to keep his head above water financially...anything I can do-you or he let me know...I have offered financial help, but he's not that kind of fella...

Does he have a university near him with an archaeology department? Or possibly a museum?
He might have trouble getting the piece to them for identification at present. If anybody on the MB is in close proximity to him and could help out in any way (I'm talking things not just specifically related to the stone work) I am sure he would be most grateful right now.

Oh my gosh. If anyone in this world would appreciate some humor right now, it would be Pat. I meant no disrespect and he knows that. OoO gave him a great suggestion, and Spidey is following up with some leg work computerwise. I hope he finds that it is worth a fortune. If anyone deserves a break, it's Pat!

I know he is grieving right now but he was always a great one to enjoy a good laugh and he made me laugh many times!

I can't see the photo very well... does it look anything like this?
View attachment 3085

This is an image from a Pre-Columbian cemetery - I guess a grave marker. Do you know how big the sculpture is?
They're thumbnails so when you click on the pictures in the original post, they should pop up in their larger format but no, they don't have as much detail as the one you posted.

Thanks :) I clicked on the thumbnails. I looked at some of the auctions online (googled pre columbian stone sculpture auctions) and I couldn't find anything that looked like the pictures you posted :( They look old... I'll bet they're the real thing, I'll google around more.
