I've been following his ordeal in the news the past few weeks. It was frustrating to watch all the things he was dragged through, when it was obvious the end was near and all he wanted was peace and dignity.
It's sad that even when you have some money you can't be left alone when it's your time to go to the clearing at the end of the path. That's why I'm spending all the money I have! Not gonna have any family members fighting over what little I have. (and I'm taking my books with me!!!)

Indeed! Money can make a lot of things easier, but it can cause some serious problems too. Death does funny things to people's heads, and money can twist even the best families.

Folks thought his daughter was heartless and greedy, keeping nutrients and hydration from her father. Until his living will popped up. She was abiding by his wishes. Jean was not.

I detest how the news portrayed that. What the daughter chose was to not have her father become a part of a machine. Which was also honouring his wishes.

But although I do not agree with what Jean did, I'm not willing to harshly judge her. It sounds like she was trying to save a man she loved. I've watched someone do that, completely out of love. I've seen them go completely against doctor's orders, and feeling that seeing one smile, one happy moment was worth it.

None of us know what was in her heart. There is obviously no love lost between her and his kids. And the news is willing to drag them all through mud.

I hope they are all able to find peace. I hope his will is plain and clear and definitely dated prior to any memory loss.

...again, I feel you....but I love my wife more than life itself, and wouldn't pull the cross-country carnival on her that Jean perpetrated on Casey...that's abuse, masquerading as love...

Just because we read something in the newspaper does not make us all knowing. We do not know the details of what led to it. None of us do.

We see the screaming and name calling. These things should not be fodder for the rag magazines. People's pain should be private. Family battles also should not be so out there.

Anyway, I'm not defending whatshe did. I'm only saying we don't need to drag people through the mud over what a reporter tells us.

Anyway, I'm outa here. :)

I agree. I can understand needing to hold on, to be unwilling to give up on someone she loved. But moving him like that was above and beyond. I'm not judging her. It looks like she has issues that she should probably get help with now that he's gone. If she held on that tight while he was alive, she's probably having a really rough time right now.

I know both sides have their own story and I don't really know what's going on here but I can relate some to what the daughter is saying. When my grandmother died, my grandfather remarried and moved to another state. The lady he married seemed ok at first but as time went on, she started shutting everyone of us out. It was methodical and in retrospect seemed completely planned out (why, I don't know). My mother and Aunt were barley allowed to speak to him. It was very puzzling because my mother and Aunt had no agenda other than to see him and speak to him. She changed phone numbers and whatever else she could do to cut off any contact. It was so bad that when my grandfather died, his wife never even told my mother and Aunt. They didn't find out until well after he was gone. It was a bizarre situation that no one understood. It really hurt my mom because there was no reasonable explanation why she was so completely shut out (and why my grandfather would have allowed it - he and my mom were always close until he remarried).

Dear lord, that woman is a fruitcake. Let the man rest in peace, already.
