I have been reading Speaks the Nightbird for the first time, and enjoying it. I was switching back and forth from a paperback to kindle, and I noticed the kindle version is 500 some odd pages, and the paperback is 800.

I have never run into such a big difference in page count before. My paperback says it includes vol 1 and 2 but I cannot find any info that the kindle version is not the same. I have done some spot checking and it definitely seems the same, have not run across anything in the paperback that is not in the kindle version. Is it just font differences?

Just curious, because I definitely want to read the whole story. And like I said, I have never run into such big differences in page counts before.

I wonder if "Vol 2" in your paperback is the second book in the series "The Queen of Bedlam." A simple way to check might be to glance at the end and see if it looks the same in both versions. Seems like a lot of difference based on the font alone but you never know. Page counts get screwy in different formats.

Thank you!

Volume 1 of Speaks the Nightbird is subtitled Judgment of the Witch and Vol 2, Evil Unveiled. (I think it was originally published as 2 separate books, then combined in the paperback version I have.) Queen of Bedlam is book 2 in the series.

I did check the ending, and it was the same. :) Just the last few sentences, I was trying not to spoil anything for myself! But, yeah, I thought that 300 pages was a pretty big difference for font to be blamed, alone. But so far I haven't run across anything not in both versions.

Just received my signed copy of Freedom Of The Mask by Robert McCammon today!! Woohoo!!

I ordered the limited edition with the bonus story so I'm still waiting for a while longer. My parents are going to the signing in Alabama for me next week. They have no clue who McCammon is so it should be interesting. In the meantime, I'm on to "Gone South."

Rick will be very gracious with your parents if they explain that they're there for you. He's a true southern gent.

My Kindle version shows 800-something pages in my Kindle Paperwhite. But I've seen similar discrepancies before. AFAIK, the Kindle version is complete. I'm sure I'd have heard about problems by now, since it was released in that format a few years ago.

I've heard great things about Gone South. Might have to bump it up in my TBR — I've had it on my shelf for two or three years now.

Thank you, Hunter! I was hoping you would see my question. :) My kindle version has a page count of 483. Weird!

Thanks so much!

I liked that book. The narrative was strong, but the story was fairly simple.

Maybe there is a preview to another book included at the end of your paperback version. Another possibility is that maybe the paperback is a large print edition. That does seem like a huge discrepancy.

I know you want to figure it out because like me, you don't want to waste your time reading something that is abridged.

A large print version is a possibility I hadn't thought of. But that still doesn't explain the page difference in kindle versions now, too. Scooby Doo, where are you? ;-D

I will stick to the paperback version, I think. I'll keep spot checking, see if I come across any differences.
