My parents were able to get my first editions of "Swan Song," Usher's Passing" and "Mine" signed along with picking up a signed copy of "Freedom of the Mask." So a banner day for my McCammon collection. I was reading the recent interview with him where he indicated the Matthew Corbett series will end when he reaches the ninth book and he has the ending already in mind. Also that he may hang it up when he reaches that point.

That's great that you were able to get those books signed! I have most of mine signed but there's still a few that aren't. I hate to think that another great writer is thinking about retiring.....

I never get too concerned about writers retiring. I'm more concerned with all of us getting older. Almost every pop culture icon I've ever been a fan of has passed away in the last ten years. There were apparently only a handful of people at the signing. I assume he was mostly signing copies of the new book for mail distribution by the book store. A strange contrast with the King events in which there are hundreds or thousands of folks. I honestly think McCammon's body of written work is comparable to King. He certainly has not had the same exposure from films and TV, but the number, duration, and quality of his books is comparable.

I did and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A long list of memorable characters!
Yeah I recently finished The Fireman too.
I loved it, not what I expected from all the preview stuff and some of the spoiler free comparisons that were floating about!
I met Joe yesterday too, he is over here in the UK promoting The Fireman this week and I went to see him in York!

Recently finished Boy's Life too (see how I steered my comment back on topic there), which I absolutely loved.
After I finish End of Watch I am debating over House of Leaves or possibly reading MINE or Mystery Walk. MINE is the one that I remember a lot of folks recommending though, so I may go with that!

MINE is non-stop action and a great read! If you can make it past the first chapter, that is......:icon_eek:

Had to look up House of Leaves. Had never heard of that before.

The only one of Robert McCammon's books that I have started but couldn't finish (so far...) has been "Gone South". I didn't get bored, but it was just too depressing. I didn't think I could bear having the story end with death - so I just said ok, I'm done. I still don't know how it ends and I don't want to know!! :sure:

I figured out the Mystery of the Missing Pages in my kindle version of Speaks the Nightbird!

I finished the book yesterday, and then grabbed my kindle to just skim through and see if I could find differences. Got to page 483 (the end of page count) without noticing anything left out but it still was nowhere near the end of the story and then I noticed that it said 50% completed.

Aha!!!! ;-D I kept flipping through, and the page count stayed at 483 out of 483, but my percentage changed. So that's why, when I jumped to the end previously to check if the last few lines were the same, it still said 483 out of 483. The page numbers just stop at 483.

Just a glitch, I guess!! But I am happy my kindle version of the book is complete. :D

Really great book, too! :encouragement:
