I am starting a new thread about news of the music world. Mostly rock news, even though the first article is about B.B. King. I will be adding to it daily.

Blues legend B.B. King was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital over the weekend, according to TMZ. The 89-year-old singer and guitarist currently lives in the city.

TMZ’s report states that King’s emergency was related to his diabetes and that he’s still in a local hospital being treated. The site also notes that King’s hospitalization “was the result of dehydration from his Type II diabetes … a condition he’s lived with for more than two decades.”

King was forced to cancel shows last year after he got sick during an early-October show at the House of Blues in Chicago. At the time, his doctors diagnosed him with dehydration and suffering from exhaustion, and recommended he cancel the remaining shows for the year.

About a year ago, King apologized for a concert in St. Louis that took an erratic turn after the bluesman started rambling onstage and didn’t perform a song for more than 45 minutes. That incident, too, was attributed to his diabetes. In this case, his representative said that he had missed his prescribed medicine that day.

King’s career dates back to 1949, when he released his first single. Over the years, he’s recorded with and influenced rock icons like Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and U2. He last released an album in 2008, One Kind Favor, which was produced by T Bone Burnett.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mick Jagger says he’s writing new songs during all of his recent concert appearances, and he’d love to see them show up on a Rolling Stones album some day.
“I’ve got a lot of new songs, and songs I’ve written over the last couple of years,” he told Rolling Stone. “I’ve done really good demos for all of them, which I would love to record.”
The last time the Stones released a new song — “Doom and Gloom,” as part of a 2012 greatest-hits compilation – it was their first one in seven years. Their 2005 album, A Bigger Bang, is the group’s most recent full-length project.
Despite the long layoff, Jagger said he hasn’t considered jump-starting his solo career. His last release was the 2001 album Goddess in the Doorway. “I’d love to record a Stones album,” he said “If that doesn’t happen, then yes [to a solo record]. That’s a truthful answer. I’ve got songs that would be great for the Stones, and I’ve got songs that wouldn’t be perfect for the Stones.”
Meanwhile, the Rolling Stones are preparing for a 15-date North American tour, continuing a string of shows that stretches back to 2012. Jagger said even more could be on the way. “After the U.S. tour, there’s nothing booked, but there are plans for what we’ll do in the autumn for gigs,” he said. “I don’t know about the early autumn, but in the late autumn, there’s a lot of talk.”
If you have something interesting to add, please o.
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has officially signed with Nashville country music label Dot Records to release his debut solo album. Part of the Big Machine Label Group led by President/CEO Scott Borchetta, Dot Records was revived last year by the parent company after originally being a powerhouse 1950s outfit that released records by Pat Boone, Roy Clark and others before closing in 1978.
"There was an immediate connection with Scott and Big Machine," says Tyler, "and Nashville seems like the perfect segue for a solo project. . . and Dot Records is the right fit.
"My earliest influences put me somewhere between the Everly Brothers and the Carter Family, and this project is all about me paying homage to my country roots.
"I've been working with some f***ing epic Nashville songwriters, getting my feet wet with the style and groove." Tyler announced his intent to record a country album during a Twitter Q&A last October.
Original Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Bob Burns died Friday in a single-car accident in Cartersville, Georgia. He was 64. The Cartersville Patch reports Georgia State Patrol say the crash occurred close to midnight when Burns was driving and his vehicle left the road while making a right turn before hitting a mailbox and a tree with the front of his car.
Police say Burns was not wearing a seatbelt and was the only occupant in the vehicle; it has not been determined if weather played a role in the accident.
A founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Burns played in the band's pre-Skynyrd groups the Noble Five and One Percent before the members were inspired to name the group after their physical education teacher, Leonard Skinner.
When Marilyn Manson recorded “The Fight Song” for 2000′s Holy Wood, the musician spoke deeply about human apathy, our shallow society and Manson’s own rejection of god. Fast forward to 2015 — Marilyn Manson reportedly brought the fight all the way to a Denny’s in Canada.
According to TMZ, Marilyn Manson treated himself to some Denny’s after finishing up an April 4 concert at the Shaw Conference Centre in Alberta. At around 2AM the next morning, Manson reportedly got into an altercation with a group at another table, leading to Manson getting clocked in the face.
There’s no word on whether Manson responded with a Grand Slam of his own, but TMZ reports Manson allegedly called the man’s girlfriend a b-tch.
Police have confirmed that some sort of Lumberjack Slam took place at the Denny’s, but no charges were filed by either party and the case is now closed. Manson’s reps have yet to comment on the situation.
Marilyn Manson is currently on the spring leg of his ‘Hell Not Hallelujah’ tour, which will conclude May 13 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Manson will hit the road once again in July for a string of co-headlining shows with the Smashing Pumpkins.
I just heard today that Miley Cyrus will be inducting Joan Jett into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What's up with that? Who did Joan Jett pi** off in the hall?!
That kills any credibility that organization had. I mean it took them forever to induct Rush and now this? Oh yeah, they are letting Green Day in as well. I mean I liked Green Day's Dookie album but that's about it. They are not groundbreaking or special in any way. Generic second generation punk band and they get in in their first year of eligibility? Who's next, to get in? No Doubt? ICK. Give me a break.
In a rare new interview, Frances Bean Cobain discusses with Rolling Stone what it’s been like growing up the daughter of a famous deceased musician and her thoughts on bringing her father Kurt Cobain‘s life to the screen in the new Montage of Heck documentary.
An interesting moment occurs in the interview where Cobain is asked if she remembers the first time hearing Nirvana and knowing that it was her dad singing. She replies, with a grin, “I don’t really like Nirvana that much. Sorry, promotional people, Universal.” She reveals that bands like Oasis, Mercury Rev and Brian Jonestown Massacre are more of her favorites.
She adds, “The grunge scene is not what I’m interested in. But ‘Territorial Pissings’ is a f–ing great. And ‘Dumb’ — I cry every time I hear that song. It’s a stripped down version of Kurt’s perception of himself — of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation.”
Cobain says of her father, “Kurt got to the point where he eventually had to sacrifice every bit of who he was to his art, because the world demanded it of him. I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn’t want to be here and everyone would be happier without him. [But], in reality, if he had lived, I would have a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience.”
Frances Bean is serving as the executive producer on the upcoming documentary Montage of Heck and she calls the way the story is told as “emotional journalism.” Cobain says director Brett Morgen asked her early on what her hope was for the film, and she responded, “I don’t want the mythology of Kurt or the romanticism.” As a result, the film more “paints a portrait of a man attempting to cope with being a human” rather than buying into the romantic legacy that came with dying at such a young age.
In related news, another new trailer (seen above) for Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck has surfaced ahead of the May 4 television premiere on HBO. Of note in this clip is that the backing music comes from haunting song from Cobain that was previously unheard and discovered in the singer’s storage facility in 2013. Frances Bean Cobain speaks more in depth about it at Rolling Stone, where the trailer premiered. Check it out here. And read more of her interview with Rolling Stone at this location.
Seether are entering their third year of putting on the Rise Above Festival and they’ve added to the awareness of suicide prevention by launching multiple online auctions in association with the upcoming music event.
Frontman Shaun Morgan created the festival to honor his brother, who committed suicide and never heard the song that Morgan penned for him called “Rise Above This.” Over the last two years, the festival has brought attention to suicide prevention and mental illness, and as stated they’ve now gotten involved with a couple of auctions that are helping to raise funds, as well.
The first auction is a partnership with Bidding for Good that includes a Motorhead Wine and Fender Cutting Board, a signed Offspring guitar, tickets and VIP passes to the Fort Rock and Welcome to Rockville festivals and items from Peter Frampton, Maroon 5, ZZ Ward and REO Speedwagon among others. Check out the auction which is currently underway at this location.
The second auction is being hosted by If Only and it will launch this week with guitars donated and signed by Slash, Tom Morello and Aaron Lewis. Come back here for the launch and make your bids.
You can also get in on the fundraising campaign by making donations via the Rise Above Fest’s Crowdrise site at this location. And if you’re in the Maine area, the Sea Dog Brewery in Bangor will be releasing a special beer for the month of May called “Rise Above Red.” The proceeds from sales will go to the SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) foundation. Learn more about SAVE here.
The 2015 Rise Above Festival will take place May 9 in Bangor, Maine at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion with performances by Seether, Godsmack, Slash, Papa Roach, All That Remains and Butcher Babies. Tickets are on sale here.
There are still a minimal amount of tickets left for this year’s festival, so if you’re planning on going, now is the time to act. Visit the Rock on the Range website for ticketing details.
In addition to all the music, Rock on the Range will also feature an interactive graffiti art installation by RISK that will be curated by artist Kelly Graval and will also find Slipknot’s M. Shawn Crahan among others adding to the exhibit. You can also look for the Rolling Rock Comedy Tent featuring Rob Schneider, Brian Posehn, Jim Norton, Don Jamieson, Jim Florentine and more. There are also a number of other sponsored attractions taking place during Rock on the Range weekend. Visit the festival website for details of everything that the event has to offer.
Wish I could see this, especially Nonpoint.
This year, Metallica, Paul McCartney and Florence + the Machine will headline Lollapalooza. The event is set to take place from July 31 to Aug. 2 in Chicago’s Grant Park.
Metallica will be performing Aug. 1 and are pumped for the upcoming gig. “It’s been nearly 20 years since we’ve been lucky enough to take the stage at Lollapalooza, so we are over the top that we’ve been asked to play this year at the now annual extravaganza held at Grant Park in Chicago. We’ll be hitting the stage on Saturday, August 1st,” the band writes.
Earlier this month, Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone that they hope to have some new material to play onstage in May during the Rock in Rio USA festival. So fans might be able to hear Metallica perform new songs in late July during their Lollapalooza set. As for the progress Metallica have made on their follow-up to 2008′s Death Magnetic, Ulrich says they already have a lot of songs created for the upcoming disc and that the “creative elements are getting close to being done.”
Three day passes for the fest are already sold-out, but single day tickets are still available. They go on-sale at Lollapalooza.com, starting at 10 A.M. local time today (March 25). Check out a full list the bands performing below.
