I just heard today that Miley Cyrus will be inducting Joan Jett into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What's up with that? Who did Joan Jett pi** off in the hall?!

That kills any credibility that organization had. I mean it took them forever to induct Rush and now this? Oh yeah, they are letting Green Day in as well. I mean I liked Green Day's Dookie album but that's about it. They are not groundbreaking or special in any way. Generic second generation punk band and they get in in their first year of eligibility? Who's next, to get in? No Doubt? ICK. Give me a break.
...Miley with Joan...oh puke me silly...that's like pairing Jimi with John Mayer...

Yeah. No. Def Leppard have been eligible for a few years and haven't even earned a mention while younger, less relevant acts have been inducted. Da Leps have said that the HOF is a bunch of suits that have no idea what's what in the history of rock music, and that if they were ever nominated, they would (not so) politely decline. This news supports that opinion.

There probably isn’t a party big enough to commemorate the joy that swept the world after Allied victory in Europe ended World War II with a pair of treaties signed on May 7 and 8, 1945 — but hiring Paul McCartney, Elton John and Rod Stewart to headline the event’s 70th anniversary bash is a good start.

The trio reportedly has been tapped to perform at a “1940s-themed concert” to mark this year’s VE Day, scheduled to take place at Horse Guards Parade in London on May 9. Although representatives have yet to issue an official confirmation, participation from all three performers has been widely rumored for weeks.

ABC News Radio reports that the concert will just be one part of a three-day celebration that also includes a service at London’s Cenotaph on May 8, a Royal Air Force flyby commemorating the Battle of Britain, a veterans’ parade and a nationwide lighting of beacons, as well as an appearance from Dame Vera Lynn, the 97-year-old singer who scored a hit in 1943 with “We’ll Meet Again.”

Like most members of their generation, McCartney, John and Stewart have an emotional connection to VE Day; Stewart has even credited his decision to record a fifth volume of his bestselling American Songbook series of albums to a conversation he had with a World War II veteran.

“I met this American GI in a coffeehouse in the Valley and we were sitting there talking about the war,” Stewart told Billboard. “He was in the second wave of landings at Normandy on Omaha Beach — so he wasn’t part of all the bloodshed — but he was telling me how he went to England for VE Day and he had fish and chips and went into the pubs. He said, ‘By the way, Rod, are you still going to make an ‘American Songbook’? You make those old songs sound brand-new.’ That was one of things that inspired me to go back and start recording again.”

All good things must come to an end, and this was never more true in the world of rock and roll than it was on April 10, 1970, when it was announced that the Beatles were no more.

The tale of the breakup of the Beatles is a long and, well, winding road. They had begun to implode for a while. When manager Brian Epstein passed away in 1967, the first cracks were showing. By the time of the recording of the 1968 double-record set ‘The Beatles‘ (aka ‘The White Album’) things had gotten worse. The Beatles were working less and less like a band, with each member focusing on their own compositions in the studio and treating the others like sidemen.

Flash forward to early-1969 and recording sessions for what would eventually become the ‘Let It Be’ album. Captured forever thanks to a documentary crew, the film ‘Let It Be,’ released a month after their breakup, shows tensions running high and resentment building. Even though they would somehow carry on and record the much more harmonious ‘Abbey Road,’ the end was in sight.

After repeated clashes with new business manager Allen Klein, Paul McCartney, was looking for it to end, perhaps sooner than the others. In late-1969, unbeknownst to all but a few close associates, he began work on a solo album in his home studio. A week before the album’s April 17, 1970 release, the promotional material for the album contained a Q&A sheet that, in essence, said that he was leaving the group.

Jon Bon Jovi is getting into the reality TV business. The singer has signed on to be one of the executive producers of a new series called If I Wasn’t a Rock Star.

According to Variety, If I Wasn’t a Rock Star will see musicians returning to their hometowns to see how their lives could have turned out if they had never pursued fame and fortune. In other words, it’s like Bon Jovi is once again asking the question, “Who says you can’t go home?” Only this time, he’s brought cameras along.

“I was drawn to this project simply because it will be a celebration of the working men and women of this country,” Bon Jovi said via press release. “They are the real rock stars.”

Although it has yet be revealed which musicians are slated to appear on the program, which does not yet have a network to call home, the series has some other big names behind it. Film studio TWC-Dimension has brought in Prototype Entertainment to develop the series, and 3 Ball Entertainment, which has a history of reality TV success with shows like Extreme Weight Loss, Bar Rescue and Breaking Bonaduce, is also involved.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be teaming up with Jon Bon Jovi and the teams at Prototype and 3 Ball to bring If I Wasn’t a Rock Star to audiences,” gushed Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of TWC-Dimension. “The series will offer music fans a chance to see their favorite stars as they’ve never imagined them before. We can’t wait to see what other amazing talent comes on board.”

However, before production begins, they may have to make one major change. As Consequence of Sound properly notes, the show’s title is grammatically incorrect. It should be named If I Weren’t a Rock Star.

As has been well documented over the years, Metallica take a little longer than a majority of bands in completing records partly due to the wealth of material they have backlogged and their pursuit of making the best album possible. Add in a variety of outside projects, and Metallica fans have waited quite a while for new music, which has only increased the anxiousness for new music.

In a new interview with Billboard, guitarist Kirk Hammett offers an update that will at least help fans quantify where the group is at in the process. He explained, “I don’t think we hit the middle point yet. I would say we’re at the 25 percent point, maybe 30 percent point. It’s hard to say, but I mean we are working on it and there are songs and we’re making plans to write more songs and record.”

The guitarist reiterated a recent comment on the album creation process, revealing that the group has “a lot of good songs,” but they are “ever-changing at this point. Nothing is etched in stone. We still have a lot of material to sift through, still. We have well over a dozen songs and we still have well over two or three hundred riffs, too, so it’s hard to say at what point we actually are in in the project.”

Continuing on about the process, he added, “Whenever we go into the studio it becomes such a huge sort of thing in our lives that it does take on monstrous proportions. It takes up a lot of space in our lives. Yes, you can look at it as something monstrous, for sure, and we’ve made movies about it, so there you go.”

Though Metallica are working on the new album, they have set aside some time for touring this year. Check out their upcoming dates here.

T minus 5 days until Record Store Day! Love this event. It's like Christmas Day when I was a kid!

There are several releases I want to pick up. Especially Social Distortion and Kind of Blue on blue vinyl.

Also looking to grab the 101ers release and hoping to score a re-release of Darkness On The Edge Of Town. It's my favorite Springsteen album.

Reality shows? ugh.

I remember when it was a mystery to what the bands even looked like, unless they were on a album cover or you happened to see a rare photo. (and were shocked because that was not how you pictured them)

Yea, I'm old.

Social Distortion has a new one out? Looks like Muskie'll be hittin the record store.

Sammy Hagar thinks Van Halen sucks? I agree, but as bad as they get still ain't as bad as when he sang for em. Ugh. Diamond Dave all the way for me.

Jon Bon Jovi needs money? Maybe he should just apologize to Ritchie Sambora, instead of churning out some reality TV crap.

Anyhoo, I'm excited--the greatest band ever is performing in my home state on independence day--ROLLING STONES and fireworks. Doubt I can afford a ticket, if they ain't sold out already.
