Here's the first look at Laverne Cox as Frank N Furter in the new Rocky Horror remake.

I've had my doubts about this remake from the start. I'm a die-hard fan of the original and am convinced that Tim Curry is the only Frank N Furter. But I'm receptive. They do stage shows every night with Different guys playing Frank. There have even been notable examples of girls playing Frank, including Dori Hartley as one of the original role-players. Old school.

LOVE her. And yes, her dad's name is in the credits of the movie.
What I love the most about her portrayal (aside from the jacket. I want it) is that she totally captured Frank's wanton flamboyance.

I don't even hate the Glee remake of a chick playing Frankie.
She wailed. And she was also GLEE-fully flamboyant.
(Special nod to the guy playing Riff Raff for totally owning it.)

So I'm not against somebody else playing Frank.
I'm not even against the idea of a girl playing Frank. I've done it.
But I've been dubious about the casting of Laverne Cox as Frank from the start. Does she even sing?

And now, seeing that photo, I'm even more skeptical. Here's what I said on Facebook:

Oh. No. Just no.
Man or not, Frank N Furter is flamboyant and has a mischievous, overblown joi de vivre, exaggerated makeup and all. She looks like a dominatrix that's gone off her meds.
And that sums it up. I don't dislike her because she's a girl playing the part. I can tell you from experience that a girl can rock it. Just not THAT girl. Looking like they slipped Valium into her morning coffee. Not in THAT outfit. With THAT understated makeup and slicked-back copperhead 'do. And the question of her singing voice has yet to be determined.

I don't like the costume or make up either. But I don't think Laverne can be blamed for that. And one still picture isn't a fair sample to judge her acting. (I mean her acting in this one part. I don't think you are criticizing her overall as an actress.)

I know I'm in the minority, but I am looking forward to this remake. When I first hear Adam Lambert was in it, I thought he was playing Frank. I still think he'd be great for that part. But I'm OK with the casting.

The more I see, the less I like it.
I don't like how dissimilar the jacket is.
I HATE the electrical tape leggings.
And I can't shake this image when I look at Dr. Scott.

Extra points if you can name the man and the movie.

More from the new RHPS:

I just dunno, man.

It looks like they're presenting it as a stage play rather than a film.
So far, the only thing I like is the stained glass window.

Arsenio Hall, Coming To America. That's one of the movies that never fails to make me laugh :)

Nope, still not interested in this show. I'll stick with the original until a better cast comes along :)
YES! Exactly. I still quote that movie.

Lepplady I actually like her costume more when I see the full picture.

It does look like it's to be a televised stage play.

doowopgirl I think you are right. Like most movies....it just doesn't need to be remade. (But I'm still looking forward to it, lol.)
I hate the leggings, and what's up with the skirt? Frank might have been a transvestite, but he was never girly about it. Except for the makeup. And the heels.
Oh, you know what I mean.
