You're preaching to the choir here. I can't believe LePage was elected again either. I like Mike Michaud and think he did a good job as our congressman but I really wish he hadn't run this time as I think had it been a race between LePage and Eliot Cutler, that Cutler would have won instead. I think Michaud's connection to Washington politics hurt him.

Neither of our candidates was well liked. Charlie Crist has some baggage from all the party changing and being unfortunate enough to be governor during the economic collapse (not his fault but he was still in the wrong place at the wrong time). And Rick Scott is Rick Scott.

I think many Republicans didn't want to vote for Scott and those voters were telling pollsters they were voting for the third party candidate (who was getting 7 percent in those polls). When the election happened, the third party guy only got 3.75 percent. I think most of the 3 percent difference from the polls went back to Scott giving him the narrow win. Of course, I'm not sure about that but the math works.

Doowopgirl, I'm glad you enjoyed "Dreamcatcher." Though it may sound odd, I always like hearing from people who enjoyed a King book that I did not. Truthfully, I'd rather most actually like the book than not like it, no matter my feelings. I enjoyed the Duddits character as well, although -- and it's been a while since I have read the tome -- I don't think he was in it as much as I would have liked. I too at first really enjoyed the friends in the book, but then, well -- the plot happened.

I don't know if Hemingway exactly sucks, but I would have to study his work more. One thing that is cool about him is he proves you can make an impact with simpler sentences.

Out of curiosity, you say it's no business of anyone in terms of how much money people make. Fair enough. What about, though, highly-paid members of a public company? What about Christopher Nolan and his deal for "Interstellar" -- should shareholders know how his compensation scheme is structured? I'm honestly curious, not necessarily looking for a debate.

Because of the neighborhood where it is located (not a gated community) and the fact that there have been so many pictures posted of it, they have very little privacy at their Bangor home. On the other hand, their house in southern Maine does not carry that baggage with it so they can live their lives without having to deal with the "business" end of it.

And good for him (and Mrs. King). They deserve every bit of privacy that they can get. At this point, the well known house is good as advertisement, at least :) I had a friend years ago that lived near there and babysat for the Kings (we're obviously talking VERY many years ago--lol). I remember seeing her pictures (snapshots with the family) and being rabidly envious, mainly because I wanted those gates in front of my house.

I was a bit of a goob, if you haven't guessed yet :D

These questions about money.... I can't help but feeling them distasteful. Im interested in Kings work, his plots, his characters, his writing and his ideas. How much he makes out of it is, to me, totally uninteresting. Just numbers. Nothing really real. Like his characters are real.

I've been biting my tongue with responding here so as not to pass my disgust onto others.

If it helps you are more than welcome to take your frustrations and anger over the election out on me. I can take it. And I realize you will probably regret jumping all over me at a later date. I seem to have that effect on women. :)

Just remember you asked for it. I doubt very much I will have regretted any of it. I cannot begin to tell you how totally disgusted I am with the Republican party at the moment. They have done virtually NOTHING to advance the welfare of the American people for decades and particularly in the past 6 years and all of a sudden now that they have control they decide they can magnanimously work together to move the country forward??!!! What a bunch of bleeping bullcrap. They have been nothing but petty little tyrants throwing a temper tantrum when they could not have their complete way and their so-called solutions for every single one of the pressing issues our country is facing are so short-sighted that even if they do ram them down our throats (it works both ways, eh?) we will see the results soon enough when the only thing it does is push the problems off for later. That's the Republican solution to just about everything. Try to make budgets look good now without any bleeping foresight into how the consequences of that affects anything else. But military spending for defense contractors? Hey, no problem, sky's the limit. And since when has McConnell or Boehner been saying they would FIX Obamacare? The only words coming out of their mouths about that are to REPEAL Obamacare but where and what is their plan for an immediate replacement if that's what they in fact do if their plan is to actually provide a workable health care system for the American people instead of some watered down system that does nothing but benefit businesses? This has been the last straw for me and I will NEVER vote for a Republican again even if it means I have to write in DAFFY DUCK on the ballot because there is only a Republican running.

Feel better? :)

Well if they do as you say I forecast we can kiss any chance of a 2016 presidential election goodbye and watch control of Congress change again next election.

I am hopeful the GOP can work with Democrats for positive change. Sadly, I think they’ll have a better chance of working with democrats than with the current President. But it seems he’s had problems working with his own party from many reports now coming out. I realize there is split in GOP attitudes (even in my own household), between the “take no prisoners’ mandate mentality faction and the “Let’s get this right for the good of the people” faction. I realize never the twain shall meet between Liberal and Conservative values, but hope there are enough centrist Democrats and Republicans who can band together and diminish the hold extremes of each party seem to now have. (And I think we will have a single payer health care system at some point. Maybe not in my lifetime, but I believe in my kids time. If we can trust our government to get it right is the big question.

I’ll probably vote for a Democrat again at some time in the future as “never” is a really long time. But point taken, and I’ll be sure not to put the elephant on your walker pouch. Even I know sometimes when not to push too hard.

But beware voting “Daffy Duck” as it might just be automatically counted under the Ted Cruz tally. ;)

It didn't make me very happy either and had I seen the article beforehand would have asked if the reporter could have left some of that out but so far so good with having any unexpected visitors show up. Maybe those who might do that aren't the same market demographic as Rolling Stone readers. Or maybe the reporter figured with the gun store nearby, we'd all be packing. :glare:
...I've seen you in a tight outfit...believe me-you ARE packing!.....
