I think the list is a good one, albeit very predictable.

I would love to see people's top ten lists in this thread :) (simply because I love lists. Ha!) We could compare them to the Rolling Stone list.

Mine would be (at the moment)--

10. Doctor Sleep
9. Joyland
8. IT
7. The Long Walk
6. Dolores Claiborne
5. 11/22/63
4. Misery
3. Needful Things
2. The Shining
1. The Stand

No particular order:
1) The Stand
2) Wizard and Glass
3) IT
4) Lisey's Story
5) The Talisman
6) Salem's Lot
7) Danse Macabre (I know, I know. Not a novel. But I've read it SO many times...)
8) The Dead Zone
9) Different Seasons
10) Dolores Claiborne

If I can't have Danse Macabre, I suppose I'd have to go with The Shining.

It would take me too long to figure out a top ten, and I would keep changing the order as my moods make some books more important than others at a givien time, but I like the lists so far.

Did anyone else notice in the article's review of Salem's Lot, they say a "High School teacher and his young girl friend decide to fight back"? Ben Mears was a novelist.

The article did not specify novel/not novel; Danse Macabre is one of my favorites too, it's a legit entry far as I am concerned.

In general i thought it was a good list but my list would be:

4. Pet Semetary
5. Different Seasons
6. Misery
7. The Green Mile
8. Full dark, No Stars
9. Salems Lot
10. The Shining

Unfortunately, I can't really agree all that much with that list. This top ten actually included some of my least favorite novels (Misery, Shawshank, Deadzone.) I also think that "Wizard and Glass" is ahead of only "Wolves of the Calla" in terms of favorite Dark Tower Novels.

Some notable exclusions in my opinion are,

Pet Sematary
Duma Key
Bag of Bones
On Writing

I wanted to include 'Salem's Lot in my list but it feels so dated in ways his other novels don't. :(

Gotta disagree on that one. Small towns in the Northeast are not much different now than they were when the novel was written. Only thing missing are cell phones and the internet.

'Salems Lot
is a classic example of the modern American Horror novel.

The list is OK. Typical Rolling Stone quasi-researched, lazy journalism. Stopped reading that magazine years ago once the number of advertisements began outweighing the journalistic content. Don't even get me started on their list of top guitarists or the rockstar treatment they gave the Boston Marathon Bomber.

Anyway, I felt the list was too focused on more recent material rather than the whole body of work. Pet Sematary absolutely should be on that list and The Drawing of The Three is a better pick than Wizard and Glass if you are looking for an entry from the Dark Tower series.
