Sam Joyce thank you for letting me know there are four.

I had set the PVR to record the series, but for reasons I can't guess, the time that I set is only showing three. (The PVR will show what is scheduled up to 13 days at least.)

I now have two showings recording....the original I started recording to get the first, and then I set another series showing to get the fourth.

:)

I am not a naturally born american and Im watching the remake of Roots.
I know this is required viewing / reading in school but to me this specific show is new.

I am just coming here because my mind cannot understand the cruelty of the white man and how it continued once it got to America.

I knew about slavery in America brought here by the Brits (europeans) but I am having such a hard time watching this! That is all.

The whole slavery era is one that many of us in America cannot grasp either. It's an ugly part of our history. But, what country doesn't have an ugly part of their own history? Mankind needs to learn from its mistakes, but sadly it tends to repeat them over and over.

This is true as I know the Spaniards that colonized my country did the same with the indigenous people. I like the remake but itbis hard to watch. It is part of history that peopleshould never forget.

Sometimes, learning from mistake can teach you great lesson
But unlike here in my country, people never learned mistake, they repeat and repear and repeat all mistakes
Example :
People (new egneration) still want the son of the former dictator to be the vice president *gasp*

I don't think your country is the only one to not learn from it's mistakes.

I think there are a lot of people in America that think they should still have the right to own slaves, like grandpa did. (Whether their grandpa was actually that wealthy or not.) And there are many people in that country and in mine that believe certain races should be "kept in their place". (Most wouldn't outwardly say that though.)

I'm having a hard time watching it to. There is a lot of use of one of the two words I cannot stand hearing. I get why it's being used, but it still bothers me.

But I also feel like it's very hollywoodized. They understood what was being said to them in English on the boats? And within four months Kunta was speaking English?

Like many others, I watched the original when it aired back in the 70s. Thing was, there were a limited amount of TV channels back then (no cable TV, let alone On Demand, streaming, etc.) and many households only had one TV where I came from, so families watched a lot of the same shows. I feel like today, no one under the age of 40 will watch this remake.

And to answer the question at hand, no I will not be watching simply because my attention span for TV shows these days has dwindled. If a show/story line is not over and done within 1 hour, I have no patience.

I think that they take some dramatic license. I know that they had said that they learned some new history regarding the Roots saga from the 70's version.

I did assume that for some of the changes.

In the original, if I recall correctly, Kunta Kinte is grabbed by white men. There was no history shown at all prior to that. This version shows
a slave trade prior to being captured
.

That's freaking nuts. I still can't believe people have thoughts like that. That was freaking nuts.
