His feast day was yesterday - I like to give the kids a little something and force them to listen to his story. They're getting older and resisting, but they like the gifts: new socks and chocolate! I love celebrating the saints. They are a reminder that there is the ability in all of us to be THAT good.

Christmas has become way more about the wrong things and not the true meaning.

The word "holiday" came from the original "holy day" - hey sorry if I sound like that postman from Cheers . Just a wee bit of trivia for ya (but you probably knew that already Gnt being the intelligent creature that you are [IMG] :m_whistle:

I think that is a lovely idea Holly. I always knew about all the traditions about Christmas and about the Saints from Dad. He read and read me stories of all of this.

My youngest was pleased as punch when I reminded him about Saint Nicholas Day yesterday--that is his patron saint and namesake :) There's a fine line to walk between Saint Nicholas and Santa, when kids are little, but we do talk about the actual person and kind of blur the line about when and where exactly he is connected with the jolly fat man. Nick seems okay with it so far (though I know it will be trickier in a year or two), especially when I told him the story of the real Black Peter (from the Saint Nick stories). He was fascinated!

That blurry line began with the poem....Twas the Night Before Christmas.
