Tooter Fish Popkin

Roland’s Malapropisms and Other Things Lost in Translation

Roland comes from a different world than ours. So, when he begins to encounter our world in The Drawing of the Three, he doesn’t recognize the words we use for a lot of things, and sometimes supplants his own interpretations. A few of my favorites are:

-tuna fish sandwich = tooter-fish popkin, as in “the gunslinger had no idea what tooter-fish was, but he knew a popkin when he saw it, although this one looked curiously uncooked.”

The above are not my words - I just copied and pasted them from a different site.

:distrust: spoiler...(??)

Oooops - that did not occur to me - it is too late to edit now - sorry about that :my_bad:
Imho, what Neesy wrote needs no Spoiler. Spoilers should be used: 1) to hide crucial info about a story or some other thing from those who might not wish to be exposed to it in advance of discovering it on their own; and, 2) to protect others from potentially offensive content. If the suggestion is that Neesy use a Spoiler since she posted something which she feels might be inappropriate since it appears at another site, I don't see the need for that. I think it's public domain unless stated to the contrary. If we were to post something which had copyright issues which were meant to interfere with someone copying it in any way or in certain ways, then a Spoiler wouldn't save us from prosecution.

In other words, please don't encourage Neesy to use more Spoilers than she already does. =D

Well gee, sorries... I just jumped the gun because I was spoiled before I read a certain part. And I did not want that to happen to someone who is just starting the series.

This happened to me with Doctor Sleep and also Mr. Mercedes - it does throw you off when you get to that part of the book.

About the safety on the Glock? - or I think in Doctor Sleep something about underwear and pockets?

Lol, I make sub sandwiches for a living! I never make sandwiches at home. I don't even buy bread anymore!
But, I do have my old favorites; a good French Dip, with lots of tender roast beef and a rich a jus (sp?) on a lightly toasted white roll.
Tuna, but it has to be Chicken of the Sea tuna, it has to be on white bread, and there has to be the perfect fish-to-mayo ratio. I'll put salt and pepper in the mix, and that's it. No relish, no onions, no green crap whatsoever. And I also put mayo on both slices of bread, because I'm weird and I like mayo. (mayo! miracle whip is not the same thing!:tounge:)
The Thanksgiving sandwich is another favorite. White bread, mayo on both slices. Cold, salted turkey with some slices of jellied cranberry sauce. Black olives, and you've got a plateful of awesome.
The peanut butter and banana sandwich is one I like on occasion, but it's got to be creamy PB, and I like to lightly toast and butter the (white) bread. To make it perfect, I drizzle honey over the banana slices. Sooo good!
Then there's my "perfect summer hot dog". A nice, big all-beef hot dog or polish dog on a white bun, with ketchup and mayonnaise. Add dill pickle relish and sauerkraut. You now have summer in a bun.
(my husband was highly skeptical of these at first, and now he loves them. score one for me!)

My, "I am back in the hood" sandwich! Two slices of Spam (Yes, dahmit. SPAM!) fried to a golden brown with cold tomato slices and chopped Serrano peppers between two soft slices of bread. (With Lay's potato chips. And and a diet Coke. Ha!)

Oh my gosh! I am going to have to try a "back in the hood sandwich"

I too like spam sandwiches

Here is my Spamwich specialty, foot long hoagie roll, layer of fried bacon spam , layer of yellow mustard, layer of sauted onions, layer of yellow mustard, ( unfortionatly I didn't have bacon at the time , but its supposed to be garnished with freshly cooked bacon bits)

My favorite sandwich is a hot pastrami on rye bread, with yellow mustard and a dill pickle wedge. :smile2:

I also love loaded Italian sub sandwiches, the kind with pepperoni and salami, provolone cheese, pickles, onions, olives, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, pepperoncinis , jalapenos, salt pepper, oil and vinegar, sometimes mayonnaise.

I also love balogna sandwiches, on white bread with yellow mustard and lettuce; and pimento olive loaf sandwiches on white bread.

and when I feel like eating a sandwich that is not as lethal as a couple packs of cigarettes, I have sliced cucumbers on white bread with miracle-whip light, a little onion powder and mint leaves. :smile2:
