My grand daughter, Kat, developed a fever of 103 around 8 PM. My daughter, Karen, gave her some Advil. Around 11:30PM, Kat went into convulsions. I called 911, and when they got here, they said she may have had a seizure. They took her to the hospital, and I am awaiting word on how she's doing.
She was foaming at the mouth, and shaking, and her eyes rolled up in her head, and she wasn't responsive until Karen put her in a very cool bath, and then she started to cry.
Karen rode with her in the ambulance, and my son-in-law, Sam, followed. I stayed here with my grand son, Kaden, who was crying, and upset.
The paramedic said it could have been because her fever went so high so fast that the seizure happened.
I am still shaking wondering what the hell happened to my beautiful little girl.
I wish I would hear from the kids as to what is going on.
We are in need of prayers, and healing vibes for Kat.

(((Pegasus, Kat and family))) It does very much sound like a febrile seizure and if so, Kat shouldn't have any adverse effects once her temperature comes back down and they can find the underlying reason for a high fever.
It's quite common in small children and although it's very scary to see, usually it's over quite quickly. I'm sorry you all had a terrible fright, it isn't nice when our babies become unwell. Please keep us posted. xox

Flake, that is what the paramedic said. I couldn't think of the term he used off the top of my head.
I'm still waiting to hear word. Hopefully they will all be home soon. I just wished someone would call.
The waiting is so, so hard, I know... (((Pegasus))) have you made yourself a cup of tea... maybe put on some quiet music until you get the call? I'm sure they will be in touch with you soon, could they be afraid of waking you and the other little one?

...exactly what my clinical training would have said...nicely done Flake...hugs to all...it's not uncommon, except to those experiencing or witnessing it...prayers for the White to heal and bring closure...

(((Mary))) - that is scary! I hope you've heard from them by now. I am fairly certain Flake and Scott are right - febrile seizure is what it sounds like. Looks terrifying. My oldest was prone to them. The first one sent us rushing to the E/R. But we learned how to deal with it after that - and got really good at preventing them. Poor little angel! How old is she? Let us know what you hear. God Bless you all!

Holly, she is 17 months old. How do you deal with this frightening thing?
The kids got home around 4 AM. We all headed to bed. They told Karen that she had an earache. and that caused the fever.
Around 6 AM, she started to spike again, and Karen was told to give her Tylenol, and Advil together.
They also gave her Amoxicillin to get rid of the earache.
She is fine right now, and playing with her brother.
We are all just wiped out.
And, Nameless, you are so right. What the hell else can happen?
Thanking everyone for the kind words, and prayers for this precious little one.

So, so happy to hear this is all it was. We were told to do what your daughter was told - the Advil / Tylenol juggle. We would give her Advil, then 3 hours later Tylenol, then 3 hours later Advil again - just to make sure that fever suppressant was never out of her system. I kept a notebook on the counter with the medicine so I could write it down and remember it and not over do it. And don't bundle her up when she's got a fever. That's hard because I always get chills when I have a fever, but if they are in a blanket sleeper under a blanket their body heat can't escape. If it starts climbing, stick her in a tepid bath - not cold, that's miserable, but kind of like a nice swimming pool temp. Your daughter will learn how to handle it, I promise.

Holly, the doctor at the hospital said not to put her in a lukewarm bath. I always did that with Karen, and Kaden, and it helped bring the fever down. I don't understand why not, it always helped to bring that fever down.
I'm so glad she is acting ok this morning. She is bitching with her brother, so that is a good thing!

Mary, last winter all 3 of the kids came down with the flu and all had high, high fevers. They had never been as sick. We were told not to put them in the bath as well because it induces shivering. But they also told us not to alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen either which I had always been told to do. So I don't know. Sometimes the things we are told by our moms are still the best things to do. I think, anyway.

(((Mary and family))) That sounded scary. I am so happy to hear your little grand daughter is feeling OK again.
Healing vibes and prayers being sent. This sounded like something I had as a baby. When I was around 1 year or maybe I was even younger.
I got a fever convulsion and also had a seizure. My mom called the ambulance, but before they had a chance to come, I stopped to breathe and my
mom had to give me artificial respiration and when ambulance arrived I was breathing again. The next fever convulsion I got when I was a teen and
again my mom had to call the ambulance and again I traveled with that to the hospital. But now when I am adult I haven't had anything. But are
always alert if I get high fever so I don't get something like that again.

Hope your grand daughter don't get anything like that anymore. Good to hear she's doing better.
