Ayrshire, eh? Have you been to the town of Ayr? That is where my husband and I spent our (one day) honeymoon. Booked a nice bed and breakfast - beautiful scenery there.

The most recent episode was rather good (if you don't mind nudity, coarse language, sexual themes and violence, that is!)

I've read the whole series of books and they are quite good.

Spent many a childhood weekend in Ayr at the beach, and some of my later time at the racecourse I love the town. Kilbirnie, where I was raised, is about 20 miles north of it.
