Hi everyone! I'm brand new to these forums and actually just discovered it a couple hours ago. I'm learning as I go, but I'm ideally seeking a LEATHER signed edition of The Stand for my husband as our second wedding anniversary gift (which is leather ...). I'm also open to DT Gunslinger as well. He is a big SK fan, but does not have any signed or first edition copies yet.

I saw someone mentioned David at Betts Books, so I'm already checking there and possibly contacting him soon, but I wanted to post it here too in case someone has one they're interested in selling. I also talked to someone at a local antiquarian bookstore that mentioned to keep an eye out for IOTA and ABAA released books for authenticity. Any other guidance or input would be greatly appreciated!

Betts Book is honest and only sells authentic signatures. If you do contact him, please be patient as he is catching up after a health issue.

Heather, the leather edition is the limited edition, referred to as the "coffin" box edition. It is signed & numbered. Prices can vary greatly. Here is a link for info and photos: Stand, The - S/L - Palaver - A forum for Stephen King fans & Book Collectors

Wow, thanks so much! In my perusing, i saw a sold coffin box, but i didn't realize that's basically what I needed to be hunting for in order to get leather. I'll keep an eye out for it. Luckily, I have about 6 months until I need to gift it to my husband! Thanks again!

The leather "Coffin Case" edition of The Stand generally runs several thousand dollars, and the primary first editions of The Gunslinger are not leatherbound, although the Revised Edition of The Gunslinger that is republished in Grant's "Little Sisters Of Eluria" is leatherbound and the Signed/Limited version of it is, of course, signed. I'm not on the pulse of prices on this one since I got mine when it was published, but would guess that it could be found for around $600-700 perhaps?

Other GREAT options that won't break the bank are the Grant Editions of Black House, and my personal favorite Desperation. They are beautiful editions and should be findable for a few hundred max.

If you're open to other options, waiting on David with a suggestion and budget and he should be able to find a great choice for you. Another great new resource should be Gerald at Gerald Winters and Son | Facebook. He just opened his bookstore a few months ago, but has been a SK fan for many many years and should be excited to help you out if David can't.

Thank you! I just messaged Gerald. I have been chatting with David, but he doesn't have any at the moment. I did find one available, but it was quite expensive AND had some issues with the gold leafing on the spine and cover (right in the SK name area). If I'm going to pay that much for one, I want to at least be able to read the full name! ;) =)

If you don't find what you want, here is a great list of pretty much ALL of the Signed editions that are out there, as well as pictures and info about each. It can be tough to find an undamaged Stand for sale, let alone at a reasonable price, but there are MANY other excellent editions out there that could be the start of a great SK collection. The recent Cemetery Dance IT has quickly become legendary, is around $1200-1300 right now and only going up apparently. Their Doctor Sleep edition is beautifully wrapped in white leather and is a real standout on the bookshelf. These, the Desperation & Black House that I mentioned, any that David or Gerald can suggest because their knowledge far surpasses mine, and this list should help you find alternate editions in case you can't find an acceptable copy.

All the same suggestions apply. I don't see one though, even the $3500 copy at veryfinebooks appears to be sold. I somewhat doubt that you will find one, so take a look at Bett's Books stock and Gerald Winters & Son stock and see what would fit. Both have some great non-Stand items available. I myself JUST put a signed 1st edition of original The Stand on layaway last week after a long search for a good one.
