I recall my Mom and Dad talking about this area of the country - I think they went there when they were just a young couple. Also something about Calumet Island?
p.s. The photo above (by the ticket office) is one I tried to send to you and Bonnie in a conversation! :lol2:

Did you hit "The Mystery Spot"? Never have stopped, myself. Then there's that "Visit Rock City!"...about a gazillion signs posted along I-75 north-bound. That many signs we had to stop...Frankenmuth...another good one, Christmas City. You can't find the ornament you're looking for there you're not trying hard enough. Not sure about Calumet Island. There is a Calumet just up the road...almost became the state capital...now they have to do a remodel every time they film another episode of Gunsmoke. Hemingway spent some time in that end of the U.P. after he came back from WWI Europe...and a more recent writer, Steve Hamilton, places some of his stories in that end of the U.P.

After we left that area we carried on north and west and possibly came near to your area. I remember seeing this sign and thinking about you!

Smart guy...or girl using a guy's name...going into worms, night crawlers. I think that business is beyond Michigan but I don't know its boundaries. That's like the speed-dial chalk-line...we're down in Florida building everything on a floating slab, chalking a pile of lines...roofing...lines...and the old Straight-Line chalk-lines would take a century and a half to rewind. And I'm in a hurry to get things done, oh I rush and rush 'til life's no fun! But then you want to make a dollar and you don't make that winding string. We'd say to each other...someone needs to come up with a way to make these wind faster. Sure enough...it happened...gears, same company Strait-Line, but now it's three four five cranks and you've landed your fish. But my guess is the guy who coined the idea was some lowly engineer down in the basement. Probably got a watch as a boner. Where were we?

The Seney Stretch? Washed up there this once, way back...no money as they say in the banking industry, but the water was cold clear and nobody was looking.
