At one time Stephen answered all of his letters personally. However, he came to realize that he had to make a choice between answering letters or writing books. As you can see, he chose the books and has left answering letters to his staff. He does not have a public email address. If you would still like to write, please let me know and I will send you the office address privately.
I remember mailing Stephen King in 1991 and getting a response from a woman named Marsha Defillippo. She answered all of my questions and even indulged my teenage naivete. It was a sweet letter and I was thrilled to receive it. Long story shortened, almost 25 years later, I'm just now realizing that you may be the lady that wrote it. Is that your name?

Moderator,

I am a remedial reading and writing teacher in Amarillo, TX. I teach a group of low income kids that hate reading and writing. This year I adopted what I'm calling the, "Stephen King Curriculum." My students love the books, most notably Joyland which is my favorite book of all time. Next year we will incorporate The Body to Shawshank and Joyland.

I'm wondering if I could get a personalized picture or get my kids to correspond with King. It would really mean a lot to them.

Dear Mr. King.

As you are well aware, many the stuff of what was once ‘Science Fiction’ is in fact now - just science. Our group of esteemed scientists is dedicated to turning the science portion of the term into reality, and we feel the fiction part should be left to celebrated authors such as yourself.

We are dedicated to preserving the greatest minds of our times for eternity... literally. We estimate that within 5 years, all we would need is a viable sample of your DNA, along with a healthy ovum, and we could grow our own Stephen King.
We are confident you would accept our humble request for the betterment of humanity. I therefore humbly request a DNA sample from you. A few strands of hair, with follicle still intact, would suffice.

I trust we will receive a positive PM from your PA, indicating your acceptance. Thank you in advance... We all float down here.

Sincerely,
Frank Einstein, M.D.

Dear Dr. Einstein,

Stephen would like to thank you for your intriguing offer. He has taken it under advisement but his legal counsel have recommended that he should decline due to concerns that this could potentially adversely affect his medical insurance plan should any genetic abnormalities be discovered in the DNA.

Thank you for the opportunity and may you be successful in your endeavors in finding a suitable replacement.

Best,

I would like to have the address too. I'm a big "King's fan" from Brazil but I'm living here in the U.S until August of this year, and I would love to take this opportunity of sending an mail directly from here (because believe it or not, sending an mail to another country from Brazil is a nightmare that even Roland Dischain would fear :p). I'm aware that Stephen King himself won't be able/have time to read it, but it would really mean so much to me to just put all the things he did to change my life (without even knowing) in a paper and send it to someone related to him.

...we are honored to have you...I am constantly awed by the many ways King's handiwork touches lives....

It is an incredible thing. I opened a lemonade stand when I was 7 with my cousin up in New York. We worked all day to earn fifty cents a piece after paying our parents back for the lemons and sugar. I bought The Drawing of the Three at a yard sale next door with it. I had no idea who he was but I was so determined to buy something of my own and it was the only thing that caught my eye. I had no idea it was apart of a series and was so confused but it sparked an interest in reading for me. I'm very open about my past but I will spare you the novel; I had a pretty insane childhood and I would read his books just to be terrified of something I knew couldn't hurt me until I was given an old beat up copy of Rose Madder. I actually was wearing a blood stained shirt from a broken nose I received for speaking out of place the month before and I had never been so terrified of his words. The book mirrored my life only my Norman was my father. I found so much solace in the idea of a magical world other than the one I was in that I some how gained hope that the world outside my home was much better, and it is. I'm actually in therapy to bury my dangerous seeds now and I am rebuilding my relationship with my parents. It's incredible the power words have in the right hands.
