I wondered about her when I heard that she was actually terrified during the filming of The Shining. Apparently her reaction to Jack Nicholson chopping through the door was genuine, despite the presence of the film crew, knowing it was in the script, and so on. That didn't seem to be the reaction of a balanced person, though most just put it down to her 'being in the moment' as an actress (or actor, if you prefer).
Even so, it's shocking to see how she is now, and a massive shame for her first and foremost. I just hope she can get whatever help she needs.

Perhaps it was his horrendously bad overacting and one-note performance that he gives in every movie that scared her. I know that's the only part of the movie that scared me!

Anyone ever see her in the 1977 movie "3 Women"? She plays a an awkward character in that movie, an outsider in an apartment complex who just can't seem to see how much everyone else around her just doesn't like her or want her around. It's a strange and even creepy movie although not a horror movie, but it does make you uncomfortable to see how people treat her, despite her clueless confidence in herself.

And lets hope that the help comes from someone other than Dr Phil.
Now actually, Dr. Phil does have access to OTHER people who really can help her. So, that's good.

And, he's helped her already -- by getting one loud mouth beeotch on a message board to stop beating her over the head with her role in The Shining.

I just went and looked at my Shelley Duvall history -- I am brutal to this woman. Although, in my defense, I do say that I know she is probably a very lovely person in real life. But man, I beat her over the head with her Wendyness. And that's just on this current board! There are years of my scathing remarks about her acting.

I still don't think she was right for the role, but I need to remember there is a person behind that character.

....I can understand that, but you didn't know for certain-none of us did....so need to beat on yourself.....
I'll be watching tomorrow. If she takes meds, will that even her out and make her "normal?" I hate to use that word because normal is different for everyone, but, you know what I mean. Will she stop thinking these weird thoughts? Sorry, I don't know much about schizophrenia.

The symptoms of schizophrenia fall into three categories: positive, negative, and cognitive.

Positive symptoms: “Positive” symptoms are psychotic behaviors not generally seen in healthy people. People with positive symptoms may “lose touch” with some aspects of reality. Symptoms include:

  • Hallucinations
  • Delusions
  • Thought disorders (unusual or dysfunctional ways of thinking)
  • Movement disorders (agitated body movements)

...she falls into this category......
Antipsychotics

Psychosocial Treatments

Coordinated specialty care (CSC)-This treatment model integrates medication, psychosocial therapies, case management, family involvement, and supported education and employment services, all aimed at reducing symptoms and improving quality of life.

...she will most benefit from the CSC.......IF she allows hereself to be treated and is willing to get better.....she, unfortunately may be so far down the path that she doesn't feel she is ill.....

Yeah, yeah, yeah...
Aw you say that now,in the bright light of the SKMB,but I bet when it is odarkthirty, and you hear the rappin, the tappin, the gently tappin on your chamber door, you will run screaming for your closet,"GNT!!GNNTTTT!!!!COME SAVE ME!!!!!" and you will be left bereft,as Gnt will be likely be watching a rerun of Hogan's Heroes and inspecting the bottom of a bag of Keebler's chocolate chip cookies for errant crumbs.. don't say I didn't warn ya.. ;)

Ahh, don't feel bad. Why did you go and do that? We all had good fun making fun of her performance. :) I still say rightly so.

Hope she gets the help she needs. I will watch, if I remember.

((Deej)) Do not beat yourself up, darling. You did not make her or drive her crazy. Hope she will get help, but it's not on you any way!!!
