Grandma is a fan of most things Sherlockian. The books by Doyle. The movies with Robert Downey Jr. The show Elementary. The Basil Rathbone movies, although the treatment of Watson in those is offputting to her. And other things. I think she even liked the book and movie The Seven Percent Solution. She drew the line at The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother.

She's been wanting to see this series. I don't have the same devotion to 221B Baker Street, but I'm up for decent storytelling, and you guys' endorsements are encouraging. It appears as though this series is on Netflix. So we'll probably start watching it soon.

I just opened this thread for the first time to comment. Saw a post from SharonC. Sigh. Sniff. A tug there.

A Sharon C post will catch me off guard sometimes, too.

I am not a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes stuff. It seems that all of his stories involve poison of some kind. A snake bite, a shot, something slipped in a drink or food, absorbed through the skin. Doesn't anyone ever get mangled in a butterchurn? And, I was not a fan of Cumberbatch, but he won me over with his portrayal of Sherlock.

THis new episode was brilliant.

Some of my favorite quotes from THe Abominable Bride. There were so many. Almost every line Sherlock says is quotable, but these were just a few of my favorites.

"For god's sake, give her some lines, she's perfectly capable of starving us." --Sherlock

Dr. John Watson: [being furious with Sherlock]" I'm an army doctor, which means I could break every bone in your body while naming them."

Sherlock Holmes: "We all have a past, Watson. Ghosts. They are the shadows that define our every sunny day."

Sherlock Holmes:" It's never twins. Not even secret twins." (THis one made me laugh because the first thing I said was, "It's a twin!"

Sherlock Holmes: May I ask, how is your husband this morning?

Lady Carmichael: He refuses to speak about the matter. Obviously I have urged him to leave the house.

Sherlock Holmes: No no he must stay exactly where he is.

Lady Carmichael: You don't think he's in danger?

Sherlock Holmes: Oh no someone definitely wants to kill him, but that's good for us. You can't set a trap without bait.

Lady Carmichael: My husband is not bait Mr. Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes: No, but he could be if we play our cards right.

And then I loved when a room full of people are all saying Merry Christmas, one after the other. And Holmes ends it with (paraphrasing), Thank God that's over with.

So, did anyone catch the Abdominable Bride?

I personally loved it. I've already watched it twice and I think I will a third time. There were so many little subtle nuances, I'm sure I didn't catch them all the first time. Fun watching.
As a first time viewer, I thought it was absolutely brilliant. The metaphysical stuff was intriguing to me. Inspired concept of the Sherlock universe. Are all episodes like this one? Similar?

Well, not really as Sherlock is set in modern times, like when he was on the
plane, coming out of his drug overdose and going back into it to solve the old murder.

But they are all very clever and fun just because of the interaction of Watson and Holmes. All the side characters are really great too. I've enjoyed it from the get go. I would go back and watch them from the beginning.

I hope they continue in the way this previous episode did. The perfect combination. I will watch from the beginning, though. PBS is replaying them.
