Hola!

May all be well or on the mend.

Are there any smells that remind you of your childhood?

Baby shampoo reminds me of my baby brother. I was big sis and I got to hold him. :blues:

Mimeograph used to remind me of grade school. ( Yes, I am THAT old. :p)

Wet dirt reminds me of sitting on the back porch during a thunderstorm. Yay!

Please share.

Peace.

Creosote, which is stuff they used to treat railroad ties with (and have since stopped using due to its negative environmental impact), used to remind me of the Dahlonega Mine Train, a ride at Six Flags Over Georgia. The smell of rubbing alcohol reminds me of doctors' offices I used to routinely visit after I ruptured my spleen and it was removed.

If I smell rubbing alcohol it takes me back to when they used to inoculate us at school, in the gym (back in the 'old days') - it's all your fault blunthead - you mentioned rubbing alcohol and it reminded me.

This may sound kinda gross - but
those old outhouses (you never see them anymore) - we used to have one at the cottage! It was pretty primitive and we also had a pump for water and an ice-box. (I would not want to smell one now, but they had one in the woods in Cornwallis Nova Scotia when we did our training out in Granville).

I grew up in an industrial town. In fact, my house was about 100 yards from an industrial estate. So:

The combination of hot steel, warm oil and cooking sausages (from the van the workers grabbed meals from);
the smoke from a coal fire (on a cold night that actually 'smells' cold);
old wood and damp earth (from the woods I played in, which spread between our estate and the motorway);
and finally, a type of hairspray that I've never known the name of, but which a girl I was crazy about used to use.

There are bound to be a few more. If I think of 'em, I'll post 'em.

Bacon and coffee together always take me right back to my great-grandparents' house. I don't think they ever had a breakfast without both, and their house was my favorite place ever when I was little. The smell of the post office in the little Wyoming town where my grandma lived is also very distinctive--you could take me in there blindfolded and I'd know exactly where I was.
