Behind you
on Thursday.

I am late on rent. Some of you guys know that I was away in the hospital rehab for 37 days.
Well, I lost my job while I was in there. - and I could not pay rent. I did pay them half.

The rent and worrying about puppy took up most of my mind in there. (I know)

So, I have a hearing and have to explain why it is late or they have the right to evict.
Guess what, I cant pay it this month either. Unemployment benefits are fighting me and I had to appeal the ruling. I have a right to it. I was counting on that to be in place when I got out.

I have been looking like mad for a job, I know I will get one soon - I work through headhunters.

This is why I have not been posting much. I don't know what to tell them - do I bring a dr note? Do I bring UE forms? They wont care.

I will have absolutely no place to go if they evict me.

Anyone been through anything like this? It is not a landlord. It is a corporation.

Have not been through that situation but my advice would to be bring everything you can find that documents your hospital stay/ that some payment was made/ that you are appealing UE/ anything from your past employer as to why dismissed/ all past payment on rent to prove you were a reliable tenant until you fell upon and illness. Perhaps this will allow the courts to request the cooperation to extend you a certain period of time to catchup.

Sending positive vibes your way.

My thoughts and prayers are with you! I have not had a home of my own in many years. I have ended up at my mother's house more times than I'd like to admit. I have to remind myself to be grateful for a roof over my head. I pray that the powers that be have compassion and empathy for your situation-maybe they'll remember a time when they needed help too. I have come to a hard realization that asking for help does NOT equate weakness!! You are strong and eventually things will turn around...Much love to you NN!

I don't know where you are. Colorado sucks for tenants. It's not a matter of why you can't pay. It's a matter of whether you've paid, and if not, you're out, and you don't have very long, and the law's tilted in favor of the landlord.

I'd first go to the landlord's representative, plead the case, offer to catch up the rent on some kind of structure, but also either be looking for money from other sources, and I understand there may be absolutely none, and have a literal exit strategy in place.

I'm so sorry. Good luck.

I wish I could help advise you, but I'm from England and don't know how things work over there. Over here there are charities like the CAB (citizens advice beuraux) who would advise you on your rights, contact relavent authorities, and in some cases even go with you to court to help you plead your case. It wouldn't always be the same, but a likely outcome would be a payment plan to catch up what you owe - maybe £5 or £10 per week until you have paid what you owe. If you were unemployed, you'd not have to pay full rent.

Hope you get it sorted NN, but more importantly, I hope you stay mentally strong and healthy.

(((N.N,))) I definitely echo what the others have mentioned, try to make sure you have as much documentation as possible to show what has occurred during that time period.
I'm sorry that this is happening to you, please keep us posted. I hope you will get to deal with someone who will listen well and be helpful.

(((((N N))))) I'm so very sorry to hear this. Sending all positive vibes your way.
Definitely take every scrap of documentation you can find, and take your time to explain it all to the judge. I think the fact that you at least paid half will speak in your favor at the hearing.

(((NN))) Hope all goes well. Lots of people on here thinking of you. Judge will probably also need indication of capacity to pay. Current unpaid may be less concern than future debts so if you can't sort out unemployment benefits or get job pre hearing try to have job interviews lined up.
Sounds like you can establish rental history and that arrears and job loss are due to illness and benefits appeal but guessing they'll be concerned about ongoing accumulation of debt so establishing an income source may be crucial.
If you can access services like the Salvation Army they may be able to assist or direct you to other services like legal advice or a food bank (eat and reduce financial pressures) and if things go badly, accommodation.
If it's available please try to get some legal advice pre hearing.
Wishing you well in all things. Good luck.

You've already gotten sage advice. Bring all your paperwork with you, including any proof you can find that proves that you've been looking for work, and paperwork from unemployment. The court should be pretty understanding when they see that you're not avoiding paying rent. You plan to just as soon as you can. You're being incredibly brave and strong. I hope the courts recognize that and reward it. You're only half a month late. I'm sure it'll work out fine.
