Wow, I just stumbled upon this online, and this is crazy! Used, in great condition hardcovers for 99 cents?? You have got to be kidding me!!!

I ordered Full Dark, No Stars in Hardcover for 99 cents. It totaled up to 5 bucks with shipping and all, but if the books are truly in the condition they state, that's a steal! I'm seeing hardback after hardback on there for 99 cents. Wow.

I had a bad experience selling to my local HPB a while ago. I took in a LARGE number of SF/fantasy books (at least 50-100 copies), both paperback and hardcover, and got the equivalent of about $.10 per book. I decided then and there that I would donate what I had left to charity. It just wasn't worth the effort.

How does that site work exactly? I noticed all kinds of good condition hardbacks for as low as 99 cents for the books themselves. I was worried it would turn out they weren't exactly that cheap but I ordered a couple and they were 99 cents, but around $4 each for shipping. Then I ran across a page that had the same book for sale, but by different folks or companies. Some were high, some were normal priced, etc, but I made sure to order the book that popped up on the side as the "recommended book ", since it was so cheap. Seems like an amazing deal, as long as there are no strings attached...

You might want to check out thriftbooks.com also. I have purchased quite a few books from them and have overall quite satisfied. The only real issue I had was when I ordered what was supposed to be a hardback copy of a particular book and what came in the mail was a paperback copy. I immediatly emailed the seller and they gave me full credit for my purchase. If you do get something from their site, please make sure you look for the icons that would indicate if the book has a dustjacket or if it is an ex-library copy. The icons are included in the description of the books but they are easy to overlook. Most books go for between $3.99 and $4.99, with shipping INCLUDED in the prices!

Wow that sounds nice! Definitely cheaper then the shipping on HPB. I ordered Duma Key, Christine, Just After Sunset & Needful Things all in hardback, so I hope I don't get fooled lol. They all seemed to be in good condition from what was written and none of them mentioned missing the Dust Jacket. I did find some that made mention of no dust jacket and made sure to stear clear of those. I have so many paperbacks I just wanted to get my hardback collection back up and running. None of those mentioned being a library copy or anything, so I hope I done ok. It's definitely addicting, I could stay on there all day if I was a lottery winner! :)

I forgot to mention that they ship in nothing but plastic bags, there's no padding or anything to help protect the books, so if you don't mind some of the book corners slightly 'bumped' then you'll do alright.

Buying online? Pshhhhhh....wheres the fun in that? Not being able to paw through dusty bins and haggle with the creepy old man/woman behind the desk would make me feel incomplete! Creaky wooden floors, cats wandering about, stacks of disintegrating National Geographics, the combined odors of ancient cigar smoke and cheap Avon perfumes, etc.etc. You know the places. Ahhhh well, these places have gone tits-up.....I blame Amazon and it's peers! Damn you ALL!!
Sniff sniff....HONK.... <shredded tissue fills the air>

You're right. It's nice to have a security blanket online for the ones you just can't find, but...
Nothing compares to that feeling, when you just know you're onto something, you can feel it & sense it. You're digging through the bins like people do at the $5 dollar bins at Walmart, you just sense there's treasure in there, and then you finally unearth a true gem and you get that rush and that funny feeling, and you just know there's bound to be more where that came from! The suspense is always intense!

The only problem with that, I wade through those bins at Walmart looking for the gem and get it up to the counter and some helpful shopper has deposited a 20 dollar movie in the 5 dollar bin.
