Under your bed
I wanna talk about Soda Pop. Why not? Talk about everything else, might as well get this over with. Notice I used 'Soda' and 'Pop' together, thus uniting those regions who say just Soda, or Pop, or you cats down south who call every pop a Coke (see how I said Pop? That's the kinda region I'm in) or you absolute weirdos who call em 'tonics'. What are you're favorites? Which ones suck? Your favorite diet--if you can stand it (only diet pop I can partially tolerate is Diet Dr Pepper)? What was your favorite that they don't make anymore?

We can do this. And absolutely NO slipping in stories about Ice Tea, Snapple, Fuji Water, etc. It has to be a soda pop--a flavored, carbonated, preferably caffeinated beverage. I cannot stress this enough: SODA POP ONLY! Don't make me get the Mods involved, because I will.

Oh, I hear you poor, sniveling creatures--"but Muskie, what about Red Bulls and Monsters? Do those count?" Answer is...I don't know. Tell me your story, show me your pictures, and together we'll decide. I repeat: WE CAN DO THIS.

You ever tried one of these things? They're great. But they have to be in the little glass bottles, ice cold. Call me crazy, but Coke is just better out of the little glass bottles.

I eagerly await your fizzy feedback.

Yes, in Alabama, we say Coke, referring to any "soda pop" or "sody pop" as my grandfather managed sometimes, and if you walked into the Piggly Wiggly and asked for soda you might be directed to the baking soda aisle. Soda pop would garner you suspicious stares.
I remember drinking cold glass bottle Coca-Cola from an actual 1960s era machine. It sat in the corner of a beauty salon that a friend owned, replete with warped avocado linoleum, sparkling gold Naugahyde chairs, outdated magazines and thick aroma of Aqua Net...stale as spilled beer and Raid. The Coke always tasted different, like I had time traveled. Nothing beats those glass bottles.
I do love Dr. Pepper, FYI.

I love Mountain Dew. I'm pretty okay with any sort of soda as long as it's not diet (aspartame - blech!). Dr. Pepper and Pepsi are usually in our fridge. I also love sasparilla but it's hard to find up here. Root beer and creme soda -- especially Thomas Kemper are expensive "sometimes" treats. I also love Big Red but, again, not so easy to find. The only soda I don't like are the weird-flavored ones made by Jones. I mean... turkey and gravy? Latke? Pea? Ugh! They make other flavors that are palatable but those... EW!!

...well, as a kid-with the over-protective Mother that would have made Mrs. Kaspbrak look like a rank amateur, I never had Soda Pop, and my old man would only bring local store generic crap in, though he seemed to like RC....my first experience with carbonated beverages was during my brief stint as a Little Leaguer when Coach would buy us pop after a win and all us kids would get "suicides" (all the pops mixed together)...as I grew older "Bitch Juice" became my favorite (yeah, Dew in all of it's sugar choked and hyper-caffeinated glory)-and it remains so today....if I long for one that has seemingly passed it would be the one below-my grandma used to sneak me glasses of it when I went to visit cuz she knew my Mom was trying to kill me with kindness....
