OK, we have several threads about people's favorite songs from such and such band. Pretty interesting to see everyone's choices.

I figured I'd put a little different spin on the question. We have a bunch of musicians and music fans on the board so I figured I'd ask.....

What is the song you wish you had written?

I'll go first.

Everlong by the Foo Fighters. To me, it's the perfect template for the modern rock song. Nice dynamics. Awesome vocals. Great guitar work. I wish I could come up with something half as good :)

Lover, You Should Have Come Over-Jeff Buckley

I consider it the perfect song. Evocative lyrics, interesting musicianship, perfect for Buckley's voice, starts slow & builds to a crescendo. It has appeal in the loping, almost country guitar line, but he's not afraid to bring in blues and rock sensibilities (it's clear how they all draw upon one another in this one)… his longing is palpable--I can't pick out one line that's not perfect. Can't say enough about how much I admire this song.

Flickan och Kråkan av Mikael Wiehe (swedish song, means the girl and the crow. Otherwise... I would like to have written My land is your land. Only heard Bruce springsteen but wasn't it Pete Seeger from the beginning who wrote it? Also Penny Lane (Lennon/McCartney) and Bridge over troubled water (Simon&Garfunkel)

This Land is Your Land is by Woody Guthrie. You rarely hear the later verses, but they're enlightening--this song is cast as a patriotic hymn, but is more like a theme song for The Grapes of Wrath.

Ah. Thanks. I know it wasn't by springsteen but have only heard him sing it. Thought it might possible be Seeger because ikonow he likes him but Guthrie makes sense.
