Quite a profound thought, ghost.
And quite the opposite, I did not fall asleep when reading your story; I shed a tear, for most of us know that feeling of wanting someone who doesn't want you. You told it in an honest way, and it was heart-wrenching for me to read. I like to think, that after she saw you that day, she had a little trouble focusing too, and wondered why she'd let you go...

I definitely think she also walked away from our meeting with some long thoughts. She looked at my son for a few minutes while we were talking and I think there was a few seconds of us both thinking "What if?". We were together too long for there not to be a few thoughts about alternate futures. To be honest, having had several years to consider the matter, I wouldn't have changed the way things went down, if what happened hadn't have happened, I might not have met my wife. It's odd that relationships during that part of my life still seem so visceral and real to me all these years later. I guess that's how I know I'm getting old, what I had for breakfast this morning is cloudy but memories from late teens and early 20's are still crystal clear.

...and because of my son's service...

Hey GNTL!

I attend a lot of high school graduations. I make it a point to make note of the the young women and men who are going to the armed services after graduation. (It's announced what they will doing after graduation. ) I have been able to meet up with two or three of the graduates and their family. I ask to shake their hand, thank them for their service, and hug the he11 out of their parent(s).

Peace.

Not really sad per se, but this piece does something to me. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, but, it's also kind of distressing and off-putting.

Haunting is probably the word I'd use.

(I'd recommend listening to it with good quality headphones, there's so many different layers to hear. Also, at the start of the video there's a loud half a second bit of static, be warned.)

In fact, it apparently has vocals, they are just so quiet they can't be heard unless you're on really high volume. At the start, Trent Reznor supposedly says something along the lines of "the best thing about life is knowing you put it together".

To Sir ghost19

Thank you for sharing. Your tagline?

"Have I run too far to get home?"

We discussed it a little. You have my undying loyalty. (I have your back.)

Peace.
Thanks Sig, and yes, that tag line sums up how my mind works probably better than any other lyric, poem, story, or anything else ever has or ever will.

All three remind me of my brother......

"Seasons in the Sun" has long and fascinating origins, which I looked into awhile ago, and was surprised to learn of the amount of hate directed against the Terry Jacks hit version. This song was a favorite of my sisters and me, and we especially associated it with a dear little friend, so much so that years later we sang the chorus at her funeral! That's a cherished memory and I was upset to see the song so disrespected.

When I was a teenager, my group of friends would always rag on one of our own, let's call him Chuck, who adopted an affinity for Bread to try to impress this little girl from the neighborhood who had suddenly "grown up." I don't know why I was laughing, because I did the same thing with Jackson Browne.

When I listen to this song, it doesn't really remind me of any of that. It reminds me (as so much does these days) of the last colossal mistake I made (well . . . hopefully it was the last). But it's actually even more poignant than that, when you consider that David Gates didn't write it about some girl he might have had if he hadn't been so stupid . . .

He wrote it for his father.

Silly me . . . thinking nobody was going to make me cry harder than David Gates today.

I'll never learn.

Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same
