End of February I'm going to get a first edition of the stand. I'm going to try and get the best condition one I can find. Local stores, amazon, ebay etc. Question is on stephenkingcollector.com I saw the price for it. But online I'm seeing price up to 1000. It looked mint but still didn't know if the prices on skc are for really good condition. If so then the 1000 is way too much. But if 5he price on skc is for average condition then the 1000 m8ght be right. Please anyone with input please let me know. Much appreciated

I know where you are coming from. The prices vary widely don't they. On a buy and sell site (Kijiji) for London, Ontario someone is offering ALL
SK first editions for sale with no price listed. Noticed there were 2 first edition of The Stand on the shelves in his posted pics. Still haven't found
the nerve to call and ask the price. I am going to be watching to see the answers to your question. So many experts on this MB.

I suppose it is all supply and demand really. I frequent eBay and AbeBooks for my purchases. Have missed out on some amazing deals cause sometimes I just can't justify spending the asking price. What I have noticed is that if you are looking for book "xyz" and it is the only 1st Ed listed for awhile, it will be much higher priced than it probably should be. Basically the perceived value of the book is higher because there are no comparisons being sold. But if there are several of them listed on eBay at the same time you usually can get a better deal.

You just gotta keep a look out and cross your fingers.

I think the value of the original 1st/1st Stand in NF or Fine condition is $1000. The problem is that Doubleday kind of skimped on the quality of this book and finding one in NF or F condition is very difficult. The print run for the 1st printing was only 70,000 copies, which, given its popularity, is small. It's fairly easy to find one in lesser condition for a more realistic price.
