Stanley Hotel Wants You to Design Its New The Shining Maze

So the Stanley Hotel, which was the inspiration behind King's book THE SHINING, and was featured on-screen in the problematic '90s miniseries, wants to commission construction of a hedge maze, which can be found nowhere in the novel this hotel inspired, and was instead invented by Stanley Kubrick for his movie version of THE SHINING, which uses the Timberline Hotel, not the Stanley, in its exterior shots.

They want to attract the masses and the masses are most familiar with the movie. That's big business.

That's VERY cool! Especially if we do end up making a visit during KingKon 2016 :)
...I saw this mentioned several months ago...and we WILL see it, I'm still looking for help in getting the planning off the ground for 2016...it's a big undertaking and outside my area of expertise...I could handle Ohio because of living here and knowing the areas....but Colorado is a whole different thing...plus, not to sound like a whiny baby-but I don't think I need to shoulder the whole canole again...

You do not sound like a whiny baby lol. imho, it's too difficult to get an accurate enough head count to attempt to get special group rates on rooms. If tours have to scheduled in advance, maybe someone could take charge of that. And maybe, after everyone has arrived, someone else could make dinner reservations for the group if necessary.

...indeed...just like this past Summer....many said "yes", but when the rubber hit the road-life intervened...

Or will you be holding the roque mallet? This whole thing has me so confused. It's Stephen Kubrick's THE SHINING!!!

I'm a bit confused too.

Stanley Kubrick decided that having the hedge animals come alive (as they do in the book) was unworkable due to restrictions in special effects, so he opted for a hedge maze instead. (Source: imdb)

I don't remember... was there a maze in the novel?

I remember topiary (hedges trimmed into different shapes) that apparently were quite scary (it has been a while...)
