Legend has it:

One of the oldest and most effective curses ever was put into motion by E.L. (Eastern Lightning), a satanic group, against the rising America and our lifelong work to bring about peace and a world without borders. Up until Ronald Reagan, every U.S. President becoming president in a year with a zero was assassinated while in office. Nancy Reagan, a dedicated spiritualist and occultist, was terrified for her husband and lived in constant fear. I can only imagine how she must have felt when Reagan was shot in an assassination attempt. He survived, though, and went on to be glorified as the President that brought Russia to their knees and that won the cold war with his 'Star Wars Program', not project.

The original Star Wars films are obviously based on events of The Knights Templar of the Temple Of Solomon who were direct descendants of Jesus and John The Baptist and their Apostles and Disciples and fought for justice during the Crusades and even later up until this day under various identities. Arts and crafts is spiritual and alive. That is why satanists are scared of art and allow drugs to suppress it.

In any case, a few years after Reagan left office he began showing symptoms of Alzheimers and withered away slowly over many years while hiding in shame as Nancy helplessly watched and took care of him, loyal to the end. Not an easy way to go. I personally would have preferred the bullet if I was in his place. Reagan was not warned and this time it there is much more at stake. Because Reagan was saved by the illuminati the curse was broken. George W. Bush was the next in line and lives healthy with his family. His father, George Bush Sr., is in a wheelchair but fine. He was, however, the vice president under Reagan.

Just thought I'd mention that...

Maybe. But I'm willing to bet Lucas just read a lot of E.R.Burroughs MARS books, watched a bunch of Flash Gordon serials, and dug Samurai culture.

Would love to hear your take on Tolkien.

Wait, wait.

Thomas Jefferson, elected 1800. Not assassinated.
James Monroe, reelected 1820. Not assassinated.
William Henry Harrison, elected 1840. Not assassinated, but he did die of pneumonia a month later.
Abraham Lincoln. Elected 1860, and assassinated - but not in that term. He was assassinated after being reelected in 1864.
James Garfield, elected 1880, yup, assassinated that term, and followed by in this sequence by...
William McKinley, elected 1900, and assasinated in that term.
Warren G. Harding, elected 1920. Not assassinated, but he did die of a cerebral hemorrhage during his term.
Frankin Delano Roosevelt. Elected 1932. Served that term. Reelected 1936. Served that term. Reelected 1940, so here we go! No, wait, he served that term. Reelected 1944 and died during that term.
JFK, elected 1960, and we know what happened.

So it's kind of a weird, convoluted "curse." I think it would be more accurate and retain some ominousness to say that the four Presidents who were assassinated all succeeded in an election during a "zero" year.

As for the Knights Templar comparison, sure, it's there. Along with the Greek Spartans, Roman Praetorian guards, the Papal Swiss Guard, the Russian Spetsnaz, American SEALs, Shaolin monks, and the Imperial Sardaukar. So many cultures have their elite, closed-society warriors.

Still, you must admit it does give food for thought especially the way Reagan went out. But like I said, 'according to legend'.

I would take the same bet as you.

I myself have kept busy with Isaac Asimov, Star Trek stories, and a few others but have not been in the world of Tolkien. Not even in the movies, yet.

ccording to an interview with Lucas one of his main inspirations was Hidden Fortress by Akira Kurosawa.

I do remember reading that Lucas was a big Kurosawa fan.

Oh yeah. Kurosawa, and the Samurai...you can see it in the Jedi's mode of dress, their Master-Pupil relationships, the respect towards their precious Katana/Lightsaber.

And there's definately some John Carter/Dejah Thoris vibe, some Flash and Dale, Ming the Mercilous. Maybe some King Arthur.

Ain't nothin wrong with any of that, either. It's how all creators create. Love the whole blamed Star Wars saga, but echhh, can't stand Lucas' written dialogue.

I read a Rolling Stone interview with Lucas back in '77 or '78, soon after Star Wars came out and made its splash. I remember (I think - it's been a while) Lucas making reference to cheesy Tojo flicks and the old Flash Gordon serials. There was also reference to cowboy serials where the wagon goes off the cliff with "To Be Continued." Because really, Star Wars had a clear Western pedigree to it as well.

Then Lucas REALLY mined his serial/cliffhanger influences with Indiana Jones.
