I saw it Saturday night... LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! I have always loved Star Wars!!!! I teared up TWICE in the movie.. and I bet you know at what two places.
The same two as me.
If I had one criticism, it would be that
Rey got too good, too fast. How did she even know to do the Jedi mind trick, let alone master it so quickly? How did she all of a sudden know the intricate details of how to sword fight with a light saber? It took Luke 2 1/2 movies to get half that good, and he had a teacher.
They got some 'splainin' to do, Lucy.

Agreed... same criticism. But I so enjoyed the movie. It made me feel young again but yet OLD as hell because we have aged right along with them! HA!

Agreed. I'll have seen it at least 3 times before it leaves theaters. Once in Imax, at least. And it's already on preorder on Amazon. So, yeah. JJ did a good job on this sequel reboot. And I'm sure they'll explain those questions. Like maybe
Luke was guiding her from afar, or some such. The Force is strong in his family, after all.

Another question that needs to be answered is
Were those auntie hugs that Rey got from Leia, or Mama hugs? Did Rey kick her cousin's arse? Or her brother's?

I think you might be on to something here. I have two thoughts to add.

First, I think the point was that Rey was just that strong in the force. She was the Awakening that had been sensed. She was able to block Ren's mind invasion and maybe that experience opened her to new channels. She has the potential to develop into the most powerful Jedi ever.

And next, as for the auntie thing, I really think you are on to something. If you read the other books and Wookiepedia, Luke was married and had a child. I think the directors have changed that part around with Leia and Han a bit, but she could definitely be his daughter. :sigh: How long until the next one???;-D

She had probably heard stories of the jedi mind trick...and she already knew how to fight with a stick. Personally, I think she was being trained when young and had forgotten about it when bad dude went off and killed everyone and pushed Luke into hiding

In regards to Rey: Luke's technically not allowed to have a daughter. That's not to say that he couldn't...

Abstinence was one of the stupid rules made up in the prequels. Wouldn't you think if the Force is hereditary--and it certainly seems to be, considering Luke, Leia, and Darth are all strong with it--the Jedi would encourage offspring to bolster their own ranks?

It also always bugged me that the Jedi are training kids--or "padawans"--that appear to be as young as five or six. Has this child already made the decision to refrain from sex for the rest of their life? Can they make that decision? I don't think so.

As the painfully annoying Dennis Miller used to say, "I don't mean to go on a rant here," but while I'm at it, the Jedi preach of maintaining balance within the Force, yet as soon as the Darkside pops up their first reaction is to swing a light saber at it. How is this balance? There're two freakin' Sith and (or were) hundreds of Jedi.

The Jedi aren't a religion...they're a cult!

I would totally be on the Darkside. At least they're more honest.
