I'd like to punch Yahoo in the nose. I haven't seen the movie yet and have avoided most threads and spoilers about it, but they just had a HUGE spoiler about the ending on their main page. I mean HUGE..............

Bastids...........
Yet another reason for not using Yahoo to add to my list. I haven't seen it yet either, so thanks for the warning (seriously). ;-D

:D I've been curious ever since I read Tery's post about there being a shocker but apparently not badly enough to actually go to a theater to watch it to find out for myself.

A friend saw it over this past weekend and said the theater was still so packed you couldn't get two seats together. How am I supposed to put my feet up?:biggrin-new:

in the books, Han and Leia had three kids: twins Jacen and Jaina, and youngest Anakin. Luke had one son, Ben, with Mara Jade. Both of them (Luke and Mara) were Jedi, and all four of the kids had mad Force powers. The proscription against having a family ended with Luke--he re-started the whole thing, and things changed under his instruction :) In this movie universe, Ben (Kylo Ren) belongs to Hand and Leia and Rey is Luke's child (I'm pretty sure). Hard to believe that Han and Leia would have a daughter that disappeared and they just sort of forgot about her, right? If they go a according to book canon (and no one says they have to, for sure), but with Ben and Rey as cousins rather than siblings, the relationship between them doesn't change much from the books (and the ultimate end will be pretty terrific :). )
Maybe so, but if you look at it,
Luke and Leia were twins, and they were separated, too. It's entirely possible that we haven't yet seen Luke's child. Or
we have, and just didn't know it yet. *cough*Poe*cough*
Either event is possible. I look forward to finding out.

Nah. I was thinking about it when I went to the movie again today (lol), and they can't use the stuff in the books unless they want to have yet another layer (or two) of people to pay--the writer(s) and publishers likely own those literary-created characters. New theory:
I still think Rey is Luke's child--in fact, I'm positive this time--but now I'm wondering if Captain Phasma is her mother. Why have such a recognizable actor in a small-but-not-bit part, and never show her face? IF she is Rey's mother, she would have started as good and gone bad, but even a bad guy might be averse to killing a child (unless you're named Anakin Skywalker, but that's another set of movies--lol). She might have dropped off a child that Luke knew nothing about. In that case, it would also explain why Kylo Ren is such a wussy villain: he isn't the REAL villain of the trilogy. He's just a pawn (as Han tried to convince him), and Phasma is the real big baddie. I'd love for that to be true!

They didn't show her face? Not even when they
made her drop the shields?
Anything's possible.
That's one thing I'm enjoying about this set of sequels. They've planted seeds that we get to speculate on until the next one comes out. They totally relived the originals, but it's still up-to-date enough to enjoy all on it's own. Except, perhaps, for the Mary Sue syndrome.

Nope. Never showed it. I'm not ready to call Mary Sue until I see more movies. There was so much going on in this one that NO ONE showed too many sides of their character. Plus, it's heroic fiction--not much subtlety of character is expected there :)

I found it a piece of corporate think-tank Disney hack work crap. Mary Sue? You bet. Felt like Star Wars fan fiction.

All this re-make, re-hash, re-boot, re-vamp Hollywood cheating just turns my stomach. People have been fed reheated crap so long they think it's what they want.

Just my opinion, mind you.

From what I understand from my son....(major star wars guru).....Knights of Ren will have nothing to do with Rogue One movie since K of R didn't exist at that point in the storyline. Also, I have heard much mention of the books, etc. The son made it very clear that none of that is canon and although some of it may be used, all bets are off with anything previously written.
When I try to tell him that Boba Fett marries Princess Leia and that Chewbacca and Padme had a child, he gets so upset.

I finally saw this a couple weeks ago, and while I liked it (as Shoesalesman said better than prequels, not better than the originals), I wasn't blown away by it. Maybe the hype was just too huge, or maybe I'm becoming a jaded and crotchety old man.

A little off topic, but has anyone heard this fan theory of the prequels that Jar Jar Binks was intended to be a Sith Lord, perhaps even Emperor Palpatine's master? There's a pretty interesting breakdown of the theory that you can watch on Youtube, and I must say, it has me kind of convinced.

I've heard the drunken master Jar-Jar theory. Some folks have way too much time on their hands!

Just saw the trailer for Rogue One.

Looks promising. Different take on the Star Wars universe. Wonder if they will stick with the cannon backstory of who and how the DeathStar plans were stolen.
