You ever stole something in your life? I did a long, long time ago, as a teenager, some **** from a convenience store, a comic book and some pop..and today.
I have absolutely no idea why I did it, but I went to the pharmacy today to get some meds, picked up a flu-shoot since there was no line up and just for the heck of it, I stole a pen from the pharmacist table.
I really don`t know why I did it, it`s just a ****ty ball-pen, used hundreds of times, it barely works..but I stole it anyway.
Maybe I needed an adrenaline shot as well?!
No idea. I did what I did.
Good thing: My conscience doesn`t bother me one bit.
Bad thing: My conscience doesn`t bother me one bit.
How about you?
Fess up.

FYI I'm new here and I have no idea how this site stuff works. I was a little thief when I was very young then we moved to the countryside where I couldn't do much damage. Then one day Mother and I went to a nearby small town to get supplies. It was a small store and the owner was the only one in the place. We needed dog food so he said, "it's in the shed outside." So he and mother went to get it. I suddenly found myself standing in the store all by my lonesome. I started looking around to find something I could fit into my pocket. Something valuable that I could impress my friends with. I settled on two Zippo lighters with naked ladies on the front. I was 14 OK! Now, here's the thing. And you can believe it or not. Most people don't. My Mother was gifted with ESP. It was never anything she could control and it only seemed to be active when we (my sisters & I) were younger. She seemed to be tuned into me more than my sisters. Anyway, we got half way home and suddenly she jumped. Suddenly, she knew what I knew. "Why did you steal those lighters?" She turned right around and took me back. Of course, then the place was full of people and I had to wait in line to apologize. That was the end of my thievery. ESP episodes like this were common until after I got out of the Navy, which to me was still young. I'm 60 now!

I did. I grew up really, really poor and I was with a friend who was spending a bunch of money on Christmas presents. She asked me what I was getting my mom and I said nothing so she made fun of me. We were in a drugstore and I saw a pair of Christmas stocking earrings that I thought my mom would love so I stole them. And I immediately got caught. I begged them not to tell my parents and they didn't and I never did it again!

What's odd is how often I get the impulse to steal things, but I've never acted on it, not even once. I'm guessing the desire to acquire new things for nothing is deeply rooted in our instincts from our hunter-gatherer days, but societal pressure has tamed us into not acting upon the impulse. One recent morning I was taking a walk and saw someone's empty car in their driveway with the engine running, and I thought "I could just hop in that car and drive away, it would be so easy." But then I always envision the negative consequences of getting caught, and also how the person would feel to find out it was stolen.

When I was around 8 or 9 I went through a phase of stealing candy froma local shop. I got caught and the manager said he was going to send the police to my house. When I got home there was a police car on my street. I wouldn't go home for hours. The police car was not at my house, but it scared me so bad I never stole anything again.

Here, there and everywhere.
When I was about 10 I switched prices on some plastic flowers at the TG&Y. The idea beamed down upon me like a burst of sunshine - I can't afford the plastic flower I want, but this other one is cheaper. Bing - just switch the price tags! I was about halfway home when I realized that maybe what I did wasn't right, but I kept the flower.

When I was 16, I stole a few dollars from the "petty cash" drawer at my job to buy some food. I still get a stomachache thinking about it.

I stole a book of poems and gave it to my Philosophy prof and told him I stole it. We pondered things for a while and he took it and pocketed it. He probably figured there was a paper in this sometime in the future. I was a University student....don't hate me for being stupid lol....and sorta philosophical.

At least you were honest about telling him it was stolen! Good for you and he DID choose to keep it anyway.

Do you recall a book by Abby Hoffman called "Steal this Book"? I read it a long time ago and it was full of tips on how to get stuff for nothing. (But I didn't steal the book - I just borrowed it from someone). I should see if it's still available - that would be a good one to get from the library.

When I was very little (about 5 years old) I took a glow in the dark keychain from a Toronto store called "Honest Ed's". My Mom only realized after I got home. It was in the shape of a skeleton. She did not haul me back there to teach me a lesson - she just laughed and nothing was made of it. It was probably too late at night to return it and the store was closed. I think maybe they spoiled me when I was quite young (she really should have made me take it back the next day) :chargrined:

Srbo, I actually do not think it is really stealing... borrowing, maybe?:0:Anyway, I do not think it is serious... not a crime, definitely.

As for me, I remember stealing a candy in a big store... But I actually wanted to try one to know if it is tasty, I bought much more of these candies after that... So, I do not know how serious this is, but my conscience was okay, too.

I stole lots when I was young. I even sold stuff I stole at school. I never had trouble with my conscience (except when I eventually got caught). I'm against theft now. I remember in grade 4 elementary school we were given a question like "Would you steal medicine you could not afford if it made your sick family member well?" I remember saying yes to that one. One last thing, the Pope said a few years back that stealing is wrong and it breaks one of the commandments. But if you have to steal, steal from large corporations, not mom and pop shops. That blew me away!

I took a candy bar as a kid from a local grocery store. I remember the brand, and I liked it and really wanted it and just took it. Went outside and ate it. The stricken conscience drained it of any taste. Many decades later, it's still a bitter memory.
