Most of us are creative in some way. Some more or less than others. The whole reason I came to this site was in hopes of showing a photo to SK. But who more able to review my work than a bunch of SK fans. I just finished a double book shelf after working on and off for 6 months. Just in time for Halloween! The book shelves were primarily for my SK novels and I had no idea in the beginning how they would turn out. After all how do you make book shelves scary? I enjoy making what I hope is art out of wood. Hopefully it's Heirloom quality. How do you like to let your creativity show?

Two gun Dan (love the name by the way) I love your bookshelves but I see a major problem -- BUY MORE BOOKS! Too much empty space. :)

I have done my fair share of building furniture and wood carvings over the years. That is a beautiful piece 2 Gun. Great job, I'm quite impressed with your work.

Thanks for the warm fuzzies! I put a lot of work into it. That is my forth set of book shelves. The new one takes the stress off of the others. Now I can organize by subject matter. But there is room for growth now again. We'll have to push SK into overdrive.

Are those some Barnes and Noble Leatherbound Classics? I have copies of Dracula, The Complete Fiction of H.P Lovecraft and The Illiad / The Odyssey Omnibus. I love them, and wish the whole series hadn't basically sold out.

Nice. Did you design it around the light fixture...or was the fixture installed before/after the shelves were in place? I saw some shelves (a photo some place) that incorporated old sashes (that part of the window that opens) into the design and would like to make one or two to recycle old windows.

Yes, most of them are. I have Dracula in there too. I intend on getting more classics to fill it out some. The red set you see there on the right is something I picked up while stationed in Holy Loch Scotland while in the Navy. Dennis Wheatly is a british horror fiction writer.

I embedded rare earth magnets under the lip of the shelves on the ends in hopes of attaching some kind of spider webs. Just haven't figgured it out yet. That will have to take the place of the dust.

It all started with needing more shelf space. That wall was mostly open but the wall sconce bisected the wall. That brought on the idea of two shelves each with a short side and a tall side. Somewhere in there I figured the shelves would be primarily for the SK books. I knew that I was going to have some kind of top/back that would incline up to a cantilevered shelf but it was my sister that came up with the bat wings idea.

Thanks! I think that one of the necissary qualities of a woodworker is being able to hide your mistakes.

Thanks! I'm slowly figuring out my way around in here. I've never been on a message board or anything else for that matter. Heck, I only got my first cell phone 3 years ago. I'm a bit slow in keeping up with such stuff.

Thanks! Out in the wood shop they were impressive enough but once I got them in the house they seemed to become more than the sum of their parts. My neighbor helped me carry them in and once we stood them up and stepped back, out came the UFF-DA's!
