So "Bullitt" is easily one of McQueen's most well known movies. I own it and I've watched it many times. The plot could have been a bit tighter and there is a lot of wasted time, but somehow this movie has become the epitome of late 1960's West Coast Cool. Even in 2016.

S.F.P.D. Lieutenant Frank Bullitt at the end ,having gotten his man, but he takes no pleasure in it. He's a professional but cool. Dig those elbow patches.

And with a car chase scene that is emulated but never equaled. Yes, I know that it's the cliche "best" car chase scene, but there's a reason for that.

The car chase scenes since have thrown as much high energy, crashes, flying cars, flying bullets, and such as possible. But it wasn't the speed and action that made that scene cool. It was the implacable adversary, the worry of Bullitt that he might not actually get them, the impending tragedy (which didn't occur) of the people on the street. It was a blend of action, suspense, and the humanity involved that made it.

Well.... and that Mustang, of course.

I'm trying to remember now - wasn't the car in Vanishing Point a Challenger rather than a Charger? I'm not a car guy - can't really tell the difference.

However, for a Charger that is cool, watch episodes of "Burn Notice."
...yessir, a 70 Dodge Challenger-the old E-bodies really started to look pretty homogenous, but were still cooler than most anything else on the highway....and that other Charger, yeah I've eyeballed it......
