I loved this book, but it was sad. Or it made me sad anyway.

It was sad.....but I loved it as well!

Another good book...which I think you might like....is Thing Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. The plot centers on the colonialism in Africa. Its another sad one...but the perspective is very eye opening.

In Canada, I think, it was called Ten Little Indians. Never heard the Brit version. Could they use the N word even? Wow, Christie died in 1976, I think.

The N word was used casually in sitcoms as late as the 80s, airing on BBC 1 and 2. I was shocked when I started watching The Young Ones - I didn't really watch them properly until the late 90s/early 00s. I'm not sure about book titles but I guess in the less p.c days even a book with that title wouldn't have raised too many eyebrows.

Loving these suggestions

Just had a book pop up on my suggested reading (Kindle) The Sleep by Benjamin Hemingway. The Blurb sounds OK (they always do haha) has anyone read it?

I haven't read it. maybe I should give it a look. I was a bit unsure as I remember my sister having to read it in high school!

Theres a reason for it! It is one of the really great books. You never will forget Ralph, Jack or Piggy......

Yeah but it was written in the 30-ties. Not exactly a decade known for keeping racial slurs low....
