When I worked in nursing I was a charge nurse at a nursing home for a bit. One Saturday night on the 3-11 shift, the phone rings. On the other end is the local PD. They ask me if I have a resident there named Kate. I said yes I do. Kate was 98 years old and had gone completely blind. But she was still a firecracker. She had been a reporter and in advertising in New York City most of her life.

Anyway, so I ask why they wanted to know. They informed me that she had been repeatedly calling 911 from her line in her room for a few hours. After apologizing I asked why she had been calling. The officer on the phone chuckled a bit and said, "She is out of toilet paper and wanted to know if we could help her get some."

I still laugh when I think about that. The story you linked made me think of it.
Ha! That reminded me...
I grew up in a small town. When I was about 14 , we finally got 911 service. One elderly mother of a prominent business owner called 911 the first week and asked for her friend, Betsy's phone number. They looked it up for her!;;D

In your mirror.
With all the crazy stuff happening in the world these days......and with the media frenzy skewing news in order to divide and conquer.....I thought it would be nice to share news that shows mankind in a better light.
I'm challenging everyone who normally posts in these threads to make an effort for a mere 24 hour period.....to find and post positive things you see in the news.....and to try not to make negative or spiteful comments about what you see going on around you, and try not to belittle your fellow members for having an opinion other than yours.
I know it's a longshot.....but I have faith in all of you.....and I'll start.....

Hey!

Nice thread. Thank you.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to post earlier. I was busy trying to *defend* on another thread a woman's right to hold the Mexican flag.

Yes!!! Let's give all the crap a rest.

(I have not read the thread yet but I'm with you.)

Hopefully you didn't want just one day. I saw a story about this on the news, and looked it up to share here.

Did you know, today is Olympic Day? It is also Pride Week. (Actually, in my city that celebration is at least 10 days long...but anyway.). So, today was the most appropriate day to release this PSA.

I am a little past the 24 hour mark but here goes ...

One night last week, it was about 10 pm, I was walking down to the corner store and when I got to the crosswalk there were 4 full grown deer standing
on the other side of the street. When the walk signal flashed they took their time and crossed the road. Now they are in front of
me. I turned around and started walking down the side street, and they followed me. I walked to the park, with them still
behind me. When I got there they spread out a little and started nibbling at the grass. I was just in awe. I turned and walked
back to the corner store. A true story; I kid you not.
