Hello all
I have just recently published my first book, a children's chapter book (although I write as widely as I read and don't confine myself to one age group of readers) and included an acknowledgements page listing every person who had contributed in one way or another to my book, True Blue Friends. The book, by the way, has been well received and loved by those who have read it.
I have been re-reading Stephen King's short story compilations and a thought occurred to me, which I shared on Facebook. It occurred to me that I should have included Stephen King on my acknowledgements page because he has had more influence on my love of reading and writing than any other person, including my best friend (a writer herself) who spent the better part of a decade encouraging me to take my writing seriously and stop treating it as a fun hobby.
I still find writing a fun and exhilarating pass-time, but I am now very much taking it seriously and treating it as a vocation.
So, thank you Mr King, for grabbing my attention and holding it for nearly 30 years. Thank you for inspiring me to write, even though I always laughed off my talent and said "well, I'm no Stephen King". And never stop writing. You don't need me to tell you that.
Kindest regards,
Kelly Adcock.
