...Is that Roland's gun on his hip? Dude... I know it's Hollywood and all, but his six shooters are supposed to be frigging equal to Excaliber. *grumblegrumble* :cower:

The guns... well I can't see them well enough to comment on that... but I can't get past the Dandy Riverboat Gambler outfit.

I thought the same thing when Tom Cruise was cast as the vampire Lestat. He did a great job though. IMO of course. I got on board with the current choice for Roland when they revealed it is a sequel to the books. For selfish reasons I admit. It leaves open the possibility of a true adaptation in the future. Reshoots this late is concerning but I expect it to be an abortion anyway so not shocked.

I think he will do great as Roland and many of the people involved in making and acting in the move are devoted to doing a good job of staying true to the spirit of the series. I don't think race of the actors will be the deciding factor on how well the move and future movies do, but how they shoot and execute the scenes/story. We'll all find out, and I'm looking forward to seeing it and supporting the project with my ticket purchase :smile2:

Even with the principle of unintended consequences, oh I changed this story line over here and I really didn't foresee the domino effect, because no-one can really, any of us can change something and not know what that will bring in the future in all areas, and it takes just one out-of-left-field aspect to force further changes (like, say, for example in an after-the-fact instance, a major actor suddenly leaving a production mid-way through), I will certainly go see it hopefully opening night. Gotta be something there. It's too momentous a work without people pulling out all the stops to make their adaptation work. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking. But I'll go see.

I agree with you that I am at least relieved that they admitted this is no longer any attempt at adapting the books but some sort of weird sequel (which I won't accept because a sequel is written by the original author). The fact that this does leave things open for a more faithful adaptation is a small mercy. I don't agree with you about Cruise though. I thought he was a terrible Lestat. :D He did as good a job as Cruise can (and will do) but that still doesn't make him right for the part.

I saw a trailer (or something like on you tube) for the new movie (The Gunslinger, Dark Tower), and I did a double take, because I thought that Matthew was going to be cast as Roland...man was I wrong. So I thought I would just begin reading the Dark Tower books again and see how I would personally paint each character with the trailer in mind...it's pretty different to try to bend the words to fit a completely different character (s). As much as I adore S.K. and as much as I am enjoying reading the Dark Tower books again, I think I'll skip the movie (s). I like my personal versions of each character as I had drawn them in my head upon my first reading of the Dark Tower, no need working this hard by adding different versions of the characters in my head. Just my opinion!

Movie poster looks like the Doctor Strange flick.

I've seen pics of the guns. Way too small. Sposed to be like Walker 44s or Dragoons. Roland looks all steampunk. Did the production designers even read the books?

No Eddie? No Suzanna? Oh, yeah, right...not an adaption. A 'sequel'. Sure.

Hey, got my fingers crossed. Hope it's cool. But if I were a betting man...

Hi everyone, first time iv posted, but long time SK fan, the long walk was my first SK adventure, and it's probably still my favorite.......I, as well as you, recently found out that Idris Elba has been confirmed as the gunslinger in the upcoming epic story that is the dark tower...........now I wasn't best pleased with this choice of casting..........I'm not racist and I am probably , ignorantly un PC without really meaning to be, bit I couldn't see it working........however, I have recently watched Luther......and he is a top actor and I'm warming to the idea of him as Roland......if it was up to me it would be Guy Pearce, or Viggo, but like I say I can see Idris doing a good job.......anyone else agree ??
I am also skeptical. The producers are calling those who question this, racists and telling them to go 'F' themselves. I believe it is a valid concern though, given that a large portion of the overall story contains serious racial tension between Odetta and Roland. He fear, anger and initial hatred of what she terms 'honkie MFer'. Not sure how they can even come close to playing that out now. It definitely will change the story line, however, they will hopefully find a way to work the animosity in.

This is a new story; another turn of the wheel. This is not going to be the story we have all already read. Any concerns about what type of racial tension will occur between Idris' Roland, and Odetta (if she even becomes a part of the tale this time) are completely irrelevant at this point, and have been since Sai King tweeted the "Last Time Around" image 10 months ago.
