I thought I posted about this before, but I can't find the thread. Maybe it was the old board.

Anyway, this series is on Netflix, just 5 episodes and it is really terrific.

A psychological thriller that examines the lives of two hunters. One is a serial killer who stalks his victims in and around Belfast and the other is a talented female Detective Superintendent from the MET who is brought in to catch him.

I am rewatching it now in anticipation of season 2 on Netflix in January. Give it a go.

I absolutely love this show! Thank you for the reminder, DJ--it's a good idea to rewatch season 1 in preparation for season 2. Can't wait!

I agree with DJ--it's worth to take a look at! Very dark, but the writing is good and it's suspenseful! Gillian Anderson and Jame Dornan are great and act well opposite each other.

I thought all the characters filled their roles nicely. And there has been such a big break between season 1 and 2, I really needed to refresh my old memory on it. So suspenseful and I love that it is set in Ireland.

I really enjoyed the first season (I agree, though, that I'll probably need to watch again before the second season). Is Jamie Dornan in the new season? I thought he was fabulous, and was therefore very sorry to see him choose that silly faux bondage movie. Hope it doesn't kill his career, because he's quite talented.

I like Jamie Dornan, as well. He is returning in season 2 :) I hope not, too! (well, at least Charlie Hunnam bowed out of that catastrophe, though! LOL).

I think Dornan has the chops to do more acting projects similar to The Fall--he actually surprised me. I think that was because the only other thing I saw him in before was Once Upon a Time ;-D

Season 2 up and running on Netflix! Just found it so that's what I will be doing for the next 6 or 7 hours. (Carrie once again is pushed to the back burner! gah!)

Just binge-watched season 2 over the weekend and on the last episode--amazing! Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson are so wonderful in this! Very tense! :)

Can't wait to hear your thoughts when you watch it!

Oh man. I just finished.

Is there a season 3? I mean, how can there really be a season 3? She's screaming "We're losing him!" at the end, and his eyes are looking all glassy. And how could he possibly get out of police custody to keep killing. And he couldn't do it long, everyone would know his face.

The acting in this was just superb stuff. Just top notch. I was really struck by the violence of men, I felt their hatred. I felt their loathing. (Paul and the IRA guy) It was scary. Paul is such a pretty man, it broke my heart that he had gone so wrong from early on, but what a cold killing machine.

I did find it interesting that Gillian's character was so distraught over Paul's shooting and not her boy toy. She ran to Paul. She cradled Paul. She was screaming for Paul's life. The fact she ran to him, screamed for him -- I think she identified with him more given her cold and distant nature towards men. I think she related to the killer more so than normal men.

What were your thoughts True?

There is no word on a season 3, but Gillian Anderson said she would like to have a season 3. I honestly think that they should end it there, and leave it up to the audience whether Paul survived or not (although as you said, I'm pretty sure he couldn't have survived that!) I honestly don't know if I would would if there was a season 3 without Jamie Dornan. He was just too good as Paul.

What Jamie Dornan did with that role was just so chilling and terrifying, but I must admit, I felt sympathy for Paul! There was a part of me that wanted him to survive. Yes, he's a cold-blooded killer, a monster even, what he did to those poor girls is disgusting and unforgivable--wrong, wrong, wrong! But then, seeing him with his daughter--there is a soft side to him--but that's all part of what Jamie brings to the character! I hope he and Gillian get some recognition for their roles!

Very interesting point, DJ! Gillian's character is very complicated--she's very layered and complex that sometimes I don't know what she's thinking. I think she liked learning about Paul--she was for the mystery of him, the chase, the game. My favorite scene has to be in the last episode--the interrogation scene between Stella and Paul--it was so tense and well-acted. I loved watching it!

I'm just sad now that it's over, lol.

S1 was great. S2 was a bit more like 'durchfall'. ;) Though that's probably for the same reason that Gillian Anderson did her 'smell the fart' acting; it was really only intended to have a single season.
Auntie Beeb doesn't like that sort of thing anymore, though, and apparently insisted that there be an alternate ending available in case it was a ratings success (this despite the fact that the BBC has been told by successive govts that, as a publicly-funded/public broadcasting corporation with a remit to provide as wide a range of programming as possible as part of its broadcasting licence, they are to 'desist and refrain' from engaging in ratings-driven programming policies or scheduling - which are of course what the commercial stations have (traditionally had) to involve themselves in).
Either way, GA was sold a pup. No surprise she wasn't to happy about it, even if she enjoyed playing the character. (She gave the impression of not caring at all during all the S2 pre-launch publicity/media BS, too; quite terse and not very forthcoming - rather like David Tennant prior to S2 of Broadchurch hitting the screens (and, boy, is that ever a mistake; a one-off, as intended, would have been fine. As it is...it's damaged goods, partly because the writing has ignored British legal niceties, presumably because there's at least half an eye on easily transferring the script to a US setting/styling for whatever the US version is called (Gracepoint?)).

I've not seen the second season of Broadchurch, but the first was VASTLY superior to the US version (yes, Gracepoint). It really was tied up quite neatly, too; a second season sounded superfluous.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with S2. I thought what turned out to be S1 was one of the best things I'd seen in quite a while (not perfect, but a cut far above the standard fare). I got through the first 2 eps of S2, then forgot it was on despite the fact I wasn't doing anything important. I decided to give it one final go on catch-up, got to about halfway and turned it off to do something else. I had intended to go back and finish the ep at some point, but that was coming up to 2 weeks ago and I've not bothered yet. Probably won't now.

LOVED Jamie Dornan in this one, but Gillian Anderson looked like she was doing 'smell the fart' acting most of the time--lol. I can't see how they can continue with a season 3. Best to let it go with a good, definite ending (IMHO). Definitely worth watching, both seasons.
lol! Smelling fart acting! Ha! THat made me laugh. I thought she was great. Her character was purposely stiff and cold. Distant. Arrogant. I found her character an interesting juxtaposition to Paul. Very similar in many cold ways, but on opposite sides of that table.
