Shirley Temple Black died at the age 85. She was so cute! I did not know that she went on to be diplomatic dignitary and the first actress to publically declare that she had breast cancer.

I grew up with her. Watched every single movie. She received an honorary academy award at the age of 6 and after she got it, she looked at her mom and said, "mommy, can we go home now?"
She was amazing and one of a kind in a sea of child stars.
My favorite movie is the one where she's at a girls school while daddy fights a war. He gets hurt and suffers from amnesia, but the school thinks he's dead and they banish her to the attic to wait on the snooty girls of the school. She makes friends with some Arab guy out her window --he has a monkey-- and she comes home to her Dickensian quarters to find lavish bedding and a roaring fire with delicious platters of food.... Rip Shirley. You took me on delightful journeys.
I loved seeing this clip just now--tap dancing is amazing, I could watch it all day. That was gorgeous, thanks.Shirley said Bill was her best friend in these movies and Shirley is the only actress during this time period to touch a black man and the south did not ban her movies from coming to their theaters.
