Day three of spending about 4 hours each evening trying to back up my daughter’s iPhone through iTunes so all her crap could go on the new phone. But I just keep getting this message...

itunes-backup-problem-not-enough-space-on-computer1.png

It seems to be a common problem and affects both PC's and Mac's. There is plenty of free space on the computers, over ten times what is needed. I've done so much research on it and tried just about every recommendation made. Yet it keeps happening.

It seems it is a glitch in Apple's iTune software that they refuse to fix, and I got the newest iTunes OS on two computers and the phone. Personally I think Apple did it on purpose so everyone will eventually give up doing it for free through iTunes and be forced to buy extra iCloud storage from them, as it’s only limited to 5 gig for free... Which is exactly what I am going to do tonight as they have beaten me.

Anyone else here ever come across this problem and did you find something that worked?

I've sent this to our IT guy in case he might have an answer for you and will let you know when I hear back.

What about storing everything on a SD card? At least for photos it should work...
I was able to get her pictures copied to the PC. It would be difficult to get them back on the phone later unless I get some third party software. But it didn't copy her contact listings, videos and all the music she has purchased. She's not concerned with the App's because she can always get them later. She is most concerned with her videos, and the music purchased as she doesn't think she can get them again without repurchasing. One of the recommendations was to update both the computer and the phone to the latest iTunes OS version that would work for the phone. When I updated her phone from 8 to 10.2 it erased all her messages, which she was none to happy with as she didn't have a lot of the people's phone numbers in her contacts listing, and all here Spanish homework that she did with her group is now gone.

I actually downloaded CopyTrans Shelbee, which is touted to be a free & easy iPhone backup without iTunes. But it blew out every time about a third of the way through backing up the pictures.

I keep trying to get the family to switch to BLU phones because of the exceptional price. But it seems the womenfolk can’t exist without their Facetime. I still have a 4 iPhone and never upgraded as you no longer get a ‘free’ upgrade without increasing your monthly bill. Can’t even find screen protectors or cases for them anymore.
