Tonight I'm making pico de gallo. Fresh tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and hot peppers from the garden. Only things I had to buy were the garlic and cilantro...=D

We'll all be right over.

I got my driver's license photo in the mail (they take your picture and then it comes in the mail here). - Yikes! plus seeing how big I looked (to me, anyway) in the King Kon photos got me thinking. I was also starting to develop high blood pressure. My older sister has diabetes so I was thinking if I did not watch myself I would just keep gaining and gaining. (Plus I do feel better when I can move around faster).

I will look into MyFitnessPal as long as I do not have to pay a whole bunch for it. When I recently went to Herbal Magic for a free consultation they told me to lose 20 pounds would end up costing 1200.00 !!!! - yes twelve hundred dollars which to me is just ridiculous :disgust::drool:
I had a driver's license moment a few weeks ago. Just think about how often you don't have to look at your own license. After looking at myself in the mirror lately, I had to get my license out for some thing or another, and had a total "Holy cow!" moment. I have to get that thing replaced.

Are they supposed to be as bad as passport photos? :wow:

Hi and happy Hump Day to all!

I have to sign off, go down to the gym in the basement of the hospital and do my workout. It comes out of my pay ($9.98 every two weeks) plus I even have a locker down there, so no excuses!

It actually feels kinda good to get all sweaty and get my heart rate up. After sitting on my butt all day typing, it is great to get the blood circulating again. (I hope no one is sick yet of hearing me talk about this) - if so - sorry!

Awesome! I feel so much better when I work out. Helps with the stress, helps me sleep better.

Not at all! It's motivating :) Summer is a terrible time for me--too busy or too hot to do as much scheduled exercise as I like (really helps with moods/depression). I've lost 30 lbs in the last year, and I want to keep going. Just getting back in the swing--30 mins of Leslie Sansone's walking DVD in the AM, 30-45 min walking the dog in the evening, and logging all my food on MyFitnessPal. Routines are the only thing that work for me. I just decided to add the 30 day plank challenge & the 30 day ab challenge on Monday, too (and my stomach muscles are still crying about it--lol). We'll get where we want to be, right? :)
I failed at my last planking challenge. Are you starting Monday? I'll start with you - be my plank challenge buddy! To maintain any kind of workout routine, I have to go to the gym and take classes - it's the only workout I enjoy, and people notice when you miss - that makes all the difference in the world to me. We plank in MuscleWorks - usually just 2 unbearable long ones - just guessing I'd say an hour (that's what it feels like, probably only 60 seconds).

I had a friend tell me about MyFitnessPal, & I like it a lot. You input what you weigh now, how much you'd like to lose per week and your level of movement during the day, and they calculate what your intake should be. You log your foods & your exercise, and it tells you how you're doing (notes correct balance--generally, of course--of calories in and out, fats, sugars, carbs, etc). My friend tried it because last Dec her doc told her she had diabetes, HBP, cholesterol issues & doc wanted to start her on a cocktail of drugs. Friend freaked out--she has a severely autistic son who is also somewhat of a savant at locks, so nothing is safe from him & everything goes in his mouth. One mistake, and he could die. Long story short (too late), she begged for a chance to change things naturally. As of today, she's lost 80 lbs, diabetes is gone, BP is normal, cholesterol good. She did it by tracking everything and moving all the time (walking, mainly). I figured if MFP helped her that much, I can use it , too :)
That is awesome! Amazing!

Oh, snap. I forgot about that planking thing.

so - a bit of advice - how long do you get your heart rate up for? Do you do it every day HollyGolightly?
I do MuscleWorks on Tuesdays and Thursdays - it's 30 mins of spinning (biking hard, fast with lots of gear, standing up about half the time), then 30 minutes of strength training - which is pretty intense and keeps my heart rate up - we do 10 mins of abs, 10 mins of arms, 10 mins of gluts and quads. Wednesday and Friday I do an hour of Zumba each day. I'd really really like to squeeze in a yoga class somewhere - I'm noticing my flexibility is not very good anymore but those classes are all early morning. You'd think I'd be quite thin with this workout schedule, but I'm not. I'm still a curvy girl. But I am strong, and I have great endurance. And my bp and cholesterol are good. I don't really watch what I eat - I just try to keep it balanced.

I am doing this on my own. Dave (the fitness coordinator) set me up with a program a while back but I just follow it on my own, including weight training, cardio etc. If we every meet up (sometime in the future!) we should go work out together! :strut::m_stretch:

I do so hope we meet! We'll have so much fun with our stunning selves! Glad Dave got you doing strength training too. I only started that last May, and it's made such a huge difference in my body. 5 pounds of muscle looks so different from 5 pounds of fat - so even if I'm not losing weight, things just look better.

I started this Monday, but I can start over next Monday :) I haven't had much trouble with the first few days (20 secs, 20 secs, 30 secs), but I know it will get a lot harder. I like the gym, but just can't find time--once I leave the house, I want to be out, and nothing gets done work wise (writing) when that happens :p.

I can do 45 seconds without crying, but I tremble like crazy. I'll get right on it Monday, though I know I've got some coming to me tomorrow evening in Randy's class.

These are the schedules I'm using to keep track of the two challenges:

That looks good - Day 7 is 45 seconds, so you'll be there when I join you. I cannot imagine being able to plank for 5 mins. It seems so unattainable. That's 5 times longer than I can do now, and I'm dying at the end of that minute. I can hang with 45 - it's those last 15 seconds that kill me, I can do it, but I die a little
