At our house, stockings are not huge: a chocolate orange, candy, and a small gift (This year: gloves for #1Son, socks for DD#1, iPod earphones for DD#2, and a little LEGO set for LilMan). And somehow we've gotten in the habit of adding a toothbrush? lol Anyway, mainly something to keep the little ones busy for a little while and allow the parents a few more minutes sleep! Gifts (wrapped) do go under the tree, except the Santa gift. That is left unwrapped, with the child's stocking next to the gift to make sure it's clear what goes to whom :) I'd imagine every family does things differently, though.

I love your idea of the stocking by the Santa gifts!

We are a small gathering on Christmas morning. Four adults, one kid, one dog. Everyone has a stocking, mostly filled with cheap trinkets, candy canes, goodies, treats for the K-9. Now that the kiddo is older (almost 11) we usually get up, see Santa gift(s), grab a coffee, hot chocolate or mimosa, unwrap some stuff, eat breakfast, then empty the stockings. But we are open to shifts in the schedule as needed.

I am actually almost ready and looking forward to sitting back and just enjoying the holiday!

That's my goal for today :) Finish up, then I can enjoy the next week. I watched my second Christmas movie yesterday--WAY behind for this year :D After today, it's baking, movies, and family stuff.

Santa is known as "Hygiene Santa" around my house. Stockings are filled with fun things, but also deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pedicure stuff, razors, shaving cream, soaps, etc.... Santa is a laughing stock at our house.

(And yes, I provide all these things all year long, Santa must want to drive the point home that hygiene is important.)

Sounds sensible. Sleep is a precious thing. The usual here is to open gifts either before or after, most often after the christmas dishes are eaten of, for the first time that is, Then to Watch Donald Duck open gifts and go back to eat somemore. All this is taking place on the 24,th though. On the 25,th we just take time off to recuperate from all that has to be done. Probably the laziest day in the year.

Yeah, Christmas starts at the 24th here as well. When little children are involved people go to church come home maybe have dinner and finally the children get there presents. Usually the living room will be closed all day because Santa was "maybe" there and shouldn't be disturbed. As a child you are are nervous little bundle and hope for the best.

On the 24th my mum who works in a supermarket will have to work. We will have a nice dinner and my uncle and my grandma will come over for a cup of coffee.
My brother with his family will be there on the 25th. My brother asked for lunch and later all the family will be together for some coffee and cake except my dad. He will be visited on the 26th.

At our house, we have a light, finger-food type supper on Christmas Eve, then unwrap presents. Early enough to let the kids play some before sending them to bed, dreaming of Santa.

Christmas morning, Santa gifts are wrapped, under the tree, also with each person's stocking on top of their respective gifts. Usually we just do candy in the stockings, and 1 or 2 little things, like hair accessories or lip gloss for Ali this year. No ideas for boys' stockings yet. Unwrap the gifts, eat a little candy, then it is get dressed in some new clothes and everyone plays while I go to the kitchen. Big dinner, then relaxation and sleep. :)

Just reading about everyone's traditions and plans are helping me get into the spirit of things. Thank you, everyone, for sharing! We will get it all done, I know it!

We always appointed a tomte (Santa) who gave the presents away. He didn't dress up or anything but he or she read what was written on the packing (sometimes there was a small verse, other times just a hastily scribbled name. One of the present kids was always appointed so it has been my task to do that many years. Sometimes when we celebrated with my fathers sister her youngest daughter was Tomte. She is 1 year younger than i. When we were kid we kids we often got similar present when it come to eatable stuff. We were both very good at the sweet stuff.....

cat in a bag is right--reading about everyone else' Christmas has made me happier and more positive. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart

Christmas Eve we'll go to mass, then to my in-laws for a little while. Christmas day, after gifts, kids will retreat with their things until my family arrives sometime in the late afternoon. We'll have dinner (still up in the air whether we'll have a big, sit down meal or sandwiches & appetizer-type food) and chatties until evening. THEN I'll get to attack Revival LOL

Okay. Enough internet fun--time to get cracking. Have a safe and lovely day everyone.

Behind you
Grab my boobs and slap me on the butt before he left
So all of puppy's things are gone. Her bed, stuffed animals and toys. Gave it to my ex upstairs neighbor. He was calling to check his mailbox. For something he ordered. he adopted an abused dog and needed stuff.

For a good cause, it hurt to see them around. I am sure I will find more stuff that she hid. The Stinker... :smile2: She is fine and in a good home.

"It's comin' on Christmas; they're cuttin' down trees..."
It's next week and, am I ready for it? Honey, please.
Haven't started decorating, haven't written cards,
Haven't strung a Christmas light (unlike our neighbors's yards.)

I just bought the tree and wreath; they're both completely bare.
Haven't started shopping 'cause it's frightening out there.
I'm supposed to pick our eldest up from Plymouth State;
There's a jack-knifed tractor-trailer on the highway... Great.:facepalm_smiley:

With so much I've yet to do, I might not have the time
To get back and drop you all another, stupid rhyme.
So, if I don't get the chance again, I'm wishing you
Very Merry Holidays and Happy New Year, too.

:) Smeej
You are the greatest! I love your little dittys!
