Good Friday everyone! I hope everyone is well, I missed you all while I was away.
It's my first full day at home and I am trying to catch up with everything here and at home. They told me not to make any major changes for a couple of months, but of course I did anyway.

I changed my hair color from blonde to this auburn that is actually a pink/red. The hell? Looks like a funky wig.

And......... I went and chose a puppy that will arrive on Christmas Eve! Biig change! I can't wait - I have been alone here too long and I am so ready. I will be an excellent mom

She is a 7 week old Golden Retriever. Adorable is not the word. She does not even look real. Her name will be Maggie Belle.

Nottie, Maggie Belle is as cute as they come! And I'm very glad you finally have some company...Good to see you back, and I really hope things are better for you now.

And Neesy, I'm glad things went well for you. Oral surgery sucks!

Oral surgery sucks! (That is a good one!) Yup - there sure was a lot of suctioning going on. I woke up this morning with a distorted face. The lower right side of my jaw is all puffed up. I'm glad I called the coach last night for my son's bowling to let her know I cannot come today (plus it is their Christmas party). For once I cannot talk very well which is good, as usually I tend to talk too much.

Well, nuff about me =D

I hope everyone enjoys the shortest day of the year. From here on in the days just get longer. I think tonight we will have a fire and I hope hubby recognizes me as he is due in tonight after being away five months.

Happy Saturday to all and don't fight the crowds too much if you still have shopping to do!

Lisey - have fun with future mother-in-law and enjoy lunch!

Good evening - thanks for everyone's good wishes. I must say, after all my trepidation it was not quite as bad as I anticipated. They put me on painkillers, antiseptic mouth rinse and antibiotics. I go back in one week to have the stitches removed.

Christmas will be here soon and to anyone not ready (like me!) I say try to relax and don't do too much. Gifts, food, good cheer are all important but what is more important is to be with those we love and just share a meal, a game, a TV show, maybe even a walk outdoors in the snow.

I wish everyone a stress free holiday. Good friends, good old fashioned traditional recipes and try not to imbibe too much! ;)

Thanks to all my SKMB friends - I appreciate all the good wishes and support I've received.

p.s. this is not the meds talking! :laugh: Love and green lights to all!
Oh yay! I'm so glad it wasn't that bad.

I agree - slow down trying to get all ready. Christmas is a season, right now we're in Advent, so we're anticipating. We just bought the tree last night, we'll decorate it today. And we leave it up through the Epiphany.

Maggie Bell is adorable! I hope she'll become a regular here like Jake, Clyde, Buckwheat and Pyro.

I've been invited to a Christmas party by the owners of a local restaurant. They invite a few people to come and graze from a buffet they put out. The food is always WONDERFUL, but, man, are they going to save a fortune on me this year. LOL!

The Last Frontier
The sea finally calmed down this morning, at least for a couple of days. There's blue sky visible, the sun is making a rare (and brief) appearance, and the seabirds - our eternal escort - are aloft around the boat. I'm in the wheelhouse, watching the water, trying to find that sense of peace that presently eludes me.

A while back, a good friend told me that I really should give total sobriety a shot for awhile, stop self-medicating, and see how it alters my perception of things. Well, currently I don't have a choice; ain't nothin' on this boat. We haven't even been in port when the bar was open. And frankly, it sucks.

Self-medication seems like a damned fine idea right now - I hate feeling this way, and want to alter it, by any means necessary. Not an option, though. So I gotta find some other way to cope.

I guess that's why they call it seahab.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it. But we're here to entertain and amuse you in any way we can.
You're at sea... find this guy and kick the sh** out of him.

Merry almost Christmas everybody. :redhat: (smile little winter face!)

I know it's long, but this is a favorite at Christmas or anytime.
~ King John's Christmas ~ by A A Milne

King John was not a good man,
He had his little ways.
And sometimes no one spoke to him
For days and days and days.
And men who came across him,
When walking in the town,
Gave him a supercilious stare,
Or passed with noses in the air–
And bad King John stood dumbly there,
Blushing beneath his crown.
King John was not a good man,
And no good friends had he.
He stayed in every afternoon…
But no one came to tea.
And, round about December,
The cards upon his shelf
Which wished him lots of Christmas cheer,
And fortune in the coming year,
Were never from his near and dear,
But only from himself.
King John was not a good man,
Yet had his hopes and fears.
They’d given him no present now
For years and years and years.
But every year at Christmas,
While minstrels stood about,
Collecting tribute from the young
For all the songs they might have sung,
He stole away upstairs and hung
A hopeful stocking out.
King John was not a good man,
He lived his life aloof;
Alone he thought a message out
While climbing on the roof.
He wrote it down and propped it
Against the chimney stack:
“TO ALL AND SUNDRY – NEAR AND FAR -
F.CHRISTMAS IN PARTICULAR.”
And signed it not “Johannes R.”
But very humbly, “JACK.”
“I want some crackers,
And I want some candy;
I think a box of chocolates
Would come in handy;
I don’t mind oranges,
I do like nuts!
And I SHOULD like a pocket-knife
That really cuts.
And, oh! Father Christmas, if you love me at all,
Bring me a big, red, india-rubber ball!”
King John was not a good man -
He wrote this message out,
And gat him to his room again,
Descending by the spout.
And all that night he lay there,
A prey to hopes and fears.
“I think that’s him a-coming now,”
(Anxiety bedewed his brow.)
“He’ll bring one present anyhow -
The first I’ve had for years.”
Forget about the crackers,
And forget about the candy;
I’m sure a box of chocolates
Would never come in handy;
I don’t like oranges,
I don’t want nuts,
And I HAVE got a pocket-knife
That almost cuts.
But oh! Father Christmas, if you love me at all,
Bring me a big, red, india-rubber ball!”
King John was not a good man -
Next morning when the sun
Rose up to tell a waiting world
That Christmas had begun,
And people seized their stockings,
And opened them with glee,
And crackers, toys and games appeared,
And lips with sticky sweets were smeared,
King John said grimly, “As I feared,
Nothing again for me!”
“I did want crackers,
And I did want candy;
I know a box of chocolates
Would come in hand;
I do love oranges,
I did want nuts.
I haven’t got a pocket-knife -
Not even one that cuts.
And, oh! if Father Christmas had loved me at all,
He would have brought a big, red, india-rubber ball!”
King John stood by the window,
And frowned to see below
The happy bands of boys and girls
All playing in the snow.
A while he stood there watching,
And envying them all…
When through the window big and red
There hurtled by his royal head,
And bounced and fell upon the bed,
An india-rubber ball!
AND, OH, FATHER CHRISTMAS
MY BLESSINGS ON YOU FALL
FOR BRINGING HIM
A BIG, RED,
INDIA-RUBBER
BALL!
