I am from Detroit it is a gutted nightmarish wasteland. Living in Detroit is like being one of the last remaining citizens in a pillaged and abandoned dystopic wasteland.

Applaud this man for having a job and making it to work at all. If people want to give him money it is their choice. Good for him for working. Good for kind people sharing freely of their own desire.

There's too many people doing nothing with their hand out, let a man who is working get a leg up for his effort. Ten dollars an hour isnt much. It hurts to live/be poor in Detroit. I grew up there and I know what a dark place it is and I am glad to not live there anymore.

Nice story. All is well and all manner of things are well. I'm from Michigan, too, and I imagine the stories I've been hearing here in Michigan are the same across the country...people who do not work...in some cases will not work...being rewarded at this time of year with checks for twelve-thousand, nine-thousand, seven-thousand dollars. Earned Income Credit. A misnomer if ever there was one. Not only have these people not paid in that much in taxes, they are being awarded with other peoples' money for not even trying. Multiply the three figures I've heard by the thousands, likely the hundreds of thousands, and you begin to wonder why you work, at all. In the end it all comes out in the wash and if it don't all you gotta do is paint your toenails purple.

I have worked full time for almost 35 years now so I get your point Walt.

I do feel sorry for those that are mentally handicapped or disabled and need support but unfortunately some people just can't be bothered to work or were not given the example of a good work ethic and it's a shame.

I applaud this guy for not giving up and going on welfare - glad to see he finally got a car and some insurance at last :)

In your mirror.
I hope he will be safe! Why does something good have to turn into something bad? Here is the up and downside to media and social media.
Through advertising/his story going viral, money was raised. But, he lost his anonymity and cannot now enjoy those generous gifts without fear. It's sad. Can there be balance, or is it no longer possible?

Hey, Flakes.

I think not. It seems no matter how happy, joyous or miraculous something might be... someone is dahmed and determined to crap in the punch bowl.

Peace.

Having your hand forced to move OUT of Detroit is a good thing, not crap in a fishbowl. Lol. This is good for him in the end. Detroit is violent and dangerous even when you don't have any money so at least he is leaving with money, and leaving period. Many people aren't lucky enough to ever leave Detroit.

SK should write a horror novel based in Detroit " Devils Night " LOL Lots of scare power there.
