If said cash register lady only knew....So is this being published in an issue of Playboy? Am I going to have to go into a Barnes & Nobles and sheepishly explain to the clerk as she (it's always a 'she' when I have to get a copy of Playboy with a King story in it)rings me up that I'm buying it for the King story inside. 'Cause you know I have to have everything King-ly for my collection, right? I do have the Cemetery Dance book with the story in there coming soon, so it's not like I'll be missing out on the story.
Ditto this...Thank you very much for the link Ms. Mod. I'll read it this weekend.
I did. It reminded me a lot of the concepts at the core of FAIR EXTENSION and MORALITY. FAIR EXTENSION is great, it's dark and amusing - but I didn't find MORALITY or THE MUSIC ROOM amusing at all.Soooooooooo, has anybody read it yet?
...the story itself IS the excerpt from that collection......I am guessing that since the version of the story in the link provided by Moderator says "Excerpted from 'In Sunlight or in Shadow: Stories...", the full story will be longer.
Yes - very creepy!Soooooooooo, has anybody read it yet?
It was OK. A bit of a throwaway in my opinion. I thought it was smart the way he referenced the couple in the painting right up front and it made me go back and forth to it at the top of the page to see exactly what he was describing. I was engaged at that point and hoping for a deeper story, I guess. What I got instead was a bit pedestrian. I feel like he took the easy way out. I guess after reading Cookie Jar earlier this year I was expecting something of that caliber.
I still like the painting though.
...heck yeah, I remember!...dad and I were glued to the TV when it came on.....Do any of y'all remember that old tv series Monsters? A film adaptation of The Music Room would have been perfect for Monsters. It has the right vibe.
Trivia: The final episode of Monsters was an adaptation of SK's short story The Moving Finger. I loved it!
Congratulations to Steve and the other writers. The story has been nominated for an Edgar Award -- here's the category:
