I'm sure many here have read at least one Bentley Little book. I haven't read too many, but I really loved "His Father's Son" and "Dispatch."

But I didn't want to post this so much for his books as I did for the author himself. What do you gals and guys make of him? Is he just a writer who really wants to do the most minimal amount of promotion, or do you think the name is a pseudonym for someone else?

There is such a mystery to him that it almost begs to be a story itself. I don't believe his birthday has ever been revealed...just the year, 1960, at Wikipedia. His books have a bio blurb that say something like he was married to his wife (I think it specifically says Chinese wife) by a justice of the peace in Tombstone, Arizona. And something about him being born after his mother saw the world premiere of "Psycho." It all reads so odd.

But perhaps the weirdest thing is, if this guy did some promotion, his books would be much more successful. So, why wouldn't he? I don't even think there is any video footage of him.

Perhaps he created this mystery to sell books (yet no one ever seems to mention it). But, since he really hasn't become a big name outside of his large cult audience (I'm assuming it is about that size, I don't really know), I would assume he would switch gears and start to pull a King and get into the pop culture.

It's hard to believe this isn't a pseudonymous situation. But obviously I don't know, and in actuality, it probably isn't (and no, I do not think it is King, even though his writing is very complementary to it).

Has anyone ever met him at a book signing? I think he has done signings before, but I'm not sure.

Again, though, I have to say: Little's next book should be titled "The Author."

I came a' hunting for a Bentley Little thread and there he be! I've read all of his works and love him. I started reading him because of one of Stephens articles in EW where he listed his summer reading. One of them was The Store so I picked it up and couldn't put it down. This guy can turn an everyday minute thing such as trash into something creepy. I'd suggest reading The Collection to get a feel for his other writing. I prefer the more supernatural stories like The Store and The Policy. The Ignored is really good.
To answer your question though, he rarely does any promotion or interviews. I find out about a new book through Amazon or Cemetery Dance. He did do an interview with Fangoria a couple of months ago where he pretty much stated he hated social media, he wants nothing to do with it, etc etc. It was a good interview because he never does them! As for signings, not sure. Maybe way back when. I have a signed limited of The Mailman through CD but doubt an in person will ever happen.
