Ms. Mod, I read that ABC will be doing an adaptation of this story, turning it into a series. From what I've read, the network and the production company Signature will be taking the set-up and using it to explore other stories of the supernatural by titling it "Grand Central," a name which already implies the episodic nature of the project.

Can you fill in any more details? I was curious if Mr. King will be writing the bible for the series, any episodes, etc. One comment: I think Mr. King should be involved in these types of series since, at some point, the broadening mechanisms used to inflate the source material eventually dilute his intellectual property's contribution. Instead of being a King-project, it becomes someone else's, if you know what I mean. I hope he is more involved than we think in this.

Ms. Mod, I was curious what the status is of the "Grand Central" TV series. I just came across this again in a discussion on the Disney company, particularly centering on ABC. I believe the original intent was to perhaps get this ready for summer 2014, but that has come and gone. Thanks for any info.

I don't have any updates about this.

Thanks. Sometimes the development process is long, so that could be one reason. I just hope it is still active.

Hello I am a film student at the Douglas Education Center in Monessen, Pennsylvania. I am in my last semester and there is a Final Product assignment requirement. I am a big fan of King's and I would like to adapt this short story for this project. I heard that Stephen King allows film students to do this but I am not sure? I would like to know your thoughts and any confirmation on this. I understand that this short story was a possible series in the works in the past but I am not sure what the current status is.

Sorry, but this story isn't available for the dollar baby program. You can find the list of those that are and the submission form to apply for a contract at this link.

Bizarre...

I'm listening to the audio book and the reader just announced the title as:
The New York Times at Special Discount Rates
At least she got it correct in the story; blows me away.
How does this slip through?
