We're The Road Virus, a mobile bookstore specializing in horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and other fringe and marginalized genres. We'll also have a great children's section, because kids deserve to be scared and have their minds blown too. The store is named after The Road Virus Heads North (obviously).
We’ve purchased a former bookmobile replete with electricity, bookshelves, and a wheelchair ramp which happens to be hidden behind a hinged bookcase, making us both ADA-accessible and a bit more spooky. After a harrowing journey across the US to return it to our build site about an hour away from San Francisco, we’ve officially started our final renovations.
Our plan is to live in the bus full-time, spreading the germ of literature and underrepresented authors and genres across the US (and, eventually, beyond).
Earlier this month, we launched a Kickstarter to assist us in raising the funds necessary to finish retrofitting the bus, pad out our initial collection, and start a literacy outreach program.
If any of you could possibly help us by backing or promoting the campaign and The Road Virus in general, we'd be forever grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read this; we're excited for the journey we're about to embark on (takeoff date is February 1st) and look forward to creating a traveling touchstone for readers far and wide who still understand the beauty in physical books and bookstores.
